Zetrix AI Bhd, formerly known as MyEG Services Bhd, has worked with DeepSeek to develop an AI large language model (LLM) for Muslims. The company claims that the model, called NurAI, is the world’s first shariah-aligned LLM. Zetrix plans on releasing the AI assistant for Malaysian users on Tuesday, although a beta version is already available for iOS and Android.
NurAI takes a faith-based approach when guiding Muslim users on issues such as finance, parenting, as well as decision-making. According to Zetrix, the model has been developed to comply with Islamic values and was reviewed by experts across the ASEAN region. In the future, NurAI will include AI avatars of Islamic scholars.
The LLM is a product of the ASEAN-China AI Lab. To create NurAI, Zetrix collaborated with DeepSeek to develop a “Mixture of Experts” architecture, which serves to generate results quicker while using up fewer resources. A team of around 10 DeepSeek researchers also helped Zetrix minimise memory usage.
Zetrix head of AI development Fadzli Shah explained that NurAI is meant to offer Muslim communities an alternative to Western and Chinese AI models. He went on to say that the company hopes to bring the model to other Muslim-majority countries. For now, though, Zetrix is working to integrate the bot with the shariah court systems to automate administration functions.
As with any other AI offering, Zetrix’s model will come with subscription plans. There is a free version with limited features, as well as the Nur Plus and Nur Pro paid options. For RM20 a month, Nur Plus subscribers will be able to use some of the bot’s advanced functions. And of course, the premium Nur Pro is the priciest at RM200 a month. Subscribers do get the added benefit of early access to new features, though.
