Y Combinator-Backed Caseflood Bags $3.2m For Voice Agents – Artificial Lawyer

Caseflood, a California-based startup focused on using genAI voice agents to support client intake and other phone interactions, has gained $3.2m in investment from a range of funds, including Y Combinator.

As seen before in Artificial Lawyer with the example of Lawtte, using AI-powered voice technology in the legal field is starting to gain traction. Even some of the largest companies, such as LexisNexis, have developed some type of voice capability.

For Caseflood the funds will be used for research and supporting their engineering team with the goal of ‘pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with voice agents’.

The company added that their 24/7 voice agent Luna has ‘a breadth of autonomous skills including outbound calling, SMS chasers, paid consultation bookings, general reception, and lead referrals that increase bottom line revenue for firms’.

Naturally, this approach is best-suited to Small Law and MidLaw, but it could perhaps be used by certain departments of larger firms that handled, for example, class actions.

They noted that (among the smaller law firms they already work with) on average ‘Luna’s conversations last 13 minutes each, and converts 30% more than the average human’.

The company also underlined that this is especially significant given that ‘legal is the most difficult application of voice AI [and] callers are going through a traumatic experience and are looking for help’.

Ethan Hilton, co-founder and CEO of Caseflood, told Artificial Lawyer that they are SOC2 and HIPAA compliant.

He commented: ‘Our AI agents have been tuned to handle 30+ minute long conversations. We have one of the best voice agent teams in Silicon Valley – with voice research backgrounds from Apple, Berkeley, Microsoft, and more.

‘For personal injury firms, however, we have AI handle the first 80% of the call (qualifying the client and informing them of their potential solutions), and then our team of dedicated, in-house closers (top-tier intake specialists from firms like Morgan & Morgan) make sure that the caller signs a retainer live, with 90%+ conversion rates.’

Hilton also noted that they’ve grown nearly 80% month over month in terms of their own revenue. They are now also working with major personal injury firms such as Sweet James.

The investors in this round include: Acquisition.com, Y Combinator, Rebel Fund, Four Cities Capital, Elevation Capital, Amino Capital, Valia Ventures, Pioneer Fund, and prominent angels Kulveer Taggar, Will Drevno, Ben Bryant, and German Royal family, the Sayn-Wittgensteins.

Alex Hormozi, co-founder, ACQ Ventures, commented: ‘Small service businesses – like law firms – are looking to use AI to grow and drive operational efficiency. At Acquisition.com and our venture arm, ACQ Ventures, we back exceptional entrepreneurs who are building these tools. Our investment in Caseflood embodies this thesis.’

Hilton concluded: ‘We know that AI agents are the future for law firms for intake, case management, and general client communication. We operate like a research lab, hell-bent on building agents that reach human parity – meaning they speak, think, and respond just like a real person – to help people through the worst moment of their lives.’

Is this a big deal?

Well, it looks like the beginning of something that will only grow – especially given the fact that there are literally tens of thousands of small law firms across the US, and across other markets.

Would larger firms use this? Probably not for most mainstream Big Law work, but one can see this helping with some areas, such as class actions where many parties are involved. Voice agents will likely also spread across many other use cases, especially as they become increasingly sophisticated.
