DMS company iManage is to offer support for MCP (Model Context Protocol) needs, which allows you to ‘connect any MCP-compatible AI application to iManage Cloud without vendor-specific integrations’. The company said that this was proof of their support for ‘universal interoperability’, especially with regard to AI tools.
And if you’re wondering what MCP means and why this matters, here’s a Wikipedia definition:
‘MCP is an open‑source, open‑standard protocol introduced by Anthropic in November 2024, designed to give AI models (like large language models or agents) a universal interface to connect with external tools, services, and data sources.
‘Think of it as the ‘USB‑C port of AI tools’ – a consistent, vendor‑agnostic way for models to plug into anything from file systems and APIs to apps like GitHub, Slack, databases, and more.’
With this ability, ‘AI applications can automatically discover available content and capabilities in iManage Cloud, while respecting existing user permissions and access controls.
‘Complementing this flexibility, enhanced search capabilities in Insight+ significantly advance how knowledge professionals find answers using natural language, revealing business trends and insights that were previously buried’, the KM-focused company explained
Beyond search, its advanced AI assistant functionality delivers ‘trusted, contextual answers grounded in the most relevant content, with customers noting its scalability and user-friendly design’, they added.
Neil Araujo, CEO of iManage, said: ‘Customer confidence in AI starts with their organizational knowledge – their documents, emails, and institutional expertise, being secure in iManage Work so professionals can access trusted, traceable AI-powered insights. And by embedding intelligence directly into Microsoft 365, professionals benefit from AI without leaving their familiar daily workflows.’
