Leveraging Proven AI Solutions for Petrochemical Operations

With this agreement, Univation will license and distribute the C3 AI software currently in use at Dow, Univation’s parent company. In addition, Univation will provide specialized technical services to support both the initial implementation and ongoing enhancements of the software for customers.

Univation’s C3 AI–powered offering integrates extensive operational insights and benefits from Dow’s ongoing C3 AI deployment, drawing upon the proven benefits of the C3 AI Asset Performance Suite. This technology, already in use across more than 50 steam cracker furnace operations within Dow’s global petrochemical facilities, is being expanded to additional furnaces and other critical asset classes.

Industry Leaders on the Benefits of AI-Driven Maintenance

“C3 AI has been pivotal in transforming Dow’s operations from reactive to predictive, optimising asset performance to drive value. As we scale these solutions across Dow’s portfolio, we anticipate significant benefits,” said Debra Bauler, chief information and digital officer at Dow. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with C3 AI as we advance a world-class predictive maintenance program and uncover further opportunities to enhance efficiency, reliability, and productivity throughout our operations.”

The Univation and C3 AI collaboration brings together the power of the C3 Agentic AI Platform, the C3 AI Reliability application, and Univation’s deep expertise in licensing technology and delivering technical services to offer an enterprise-scale AI solution that proactively identifies equipment issues, maximizes uptime, and optimizes operational performance for steam cracker operations.

What are the Key Features Driving Petrochemical Efficiency?

Improved plant performance through data-driven insights and predictive analytics.
Proactive identification of equipment issues, allowing for timely intervention, preventing costly failures, and enhanced maintenance strategies.
Maximising the productive lifespan of critical equipment through proactive maintenance interventions.
Enterprise-scale platform and user-interface adaptable to a wide range of steam cracker furnace unit operations.
Expert technical support from Univation and C3 AI ensures a smooth implementation and ongoing enhanced performance.

Voices from Univation Technologies and C3 AI

Nathan Wiker, president of Univation Technologies, commented, “The operational advantages delivered by the C3 Agentic AI Platform are truly transformative – elevating proactive predictive maintenance programs for steam cracker operations to an entirely new level.” Nathan continued, “This powerful three-fold synergy — the C3 AI Asset Performance Suite, Dow’s proven success in deploying it across critical operations, and Univation’s global expertise in delivering world-class technical services — ushers in a new era of preventative maintenance for the petrochemical industry. We are confident that our AI-based solution will drive significant improvements in asset availability and uptime for steam cracker units, while also delivering substantial cost savings.”

“As the trusted leader in predictive maintenance, we’ve turned Enterprise AI into a core capability for modern industrial operations,” said Ed Abbo, Chief Technology Officer, C3 AI. “Our work with Dow sets the standard for how industrial companies can use AI to drive efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize performance. And this collaboration with Univation Technologies will accelerate adoption of this proven, domain-specific AI application across the broader petrochemical industry and support modernization across the market by delivering real, measurable benefits of AI at scale.”
