The AI2L Global Legal Tech Alliance – Artificial Lawyer

Last week, multiple regional legal tech groups, including ELTA, ILTN in India, ALITA in the Asia-Pacific, and AB2L in Brazil, formed a global alliance for innovation called AI2L. Here are some key comments from those involved in leading the project.

The aim of AI2L is to bring together multiple organisations that promote and support legal innovation to create a more joined up, worldwide platform. Board members include:

Brian Tang – ALITA – Hong Kong

Marisa Borsboom – ELTA

Shreya Vajpei – ILTN (Indian Legal Tech Network)

Daniel Marques, Director of AB2L

(and me….)

Comments on the launch:

Marcelo Moura (AB2L & AI2L UK Ambassador): ‘The name AI2L carries layers of meaning. The A stands for Alliance, the I for International, and the ‘2’ signals that the L can stand for both Lawtech and Legal Innovation. Placing the A before the I creates an intentional ambiguity so that AI2L can also mean Artificial Intelligence to Legal, which reflects our mission to promote AI and technology in the legal industry.

‘The Brazilian Legal Tech Association – AB2L sends delegations to the UK each year. In 2025, the delegation’s visit prompted AB2L’s first fully fledged international conference, the AB2L London Summit, which I was honoured to organise and host at Mishcon de Reya. The Summit created the perfect moment for the AI2L founding members to come together and announce the new alliance. Now it is time to grow this network and next year host the first dedicated AI2L Summit.’

Daniel Marques (AB2L President): ‘Legal tech is downstream of the law. Over the last decade, each jurisdiction has developed a legal tech market tailored to its own needs. But business is global, and now it is time to collaborate and learn from each other across borders. AB2L took the initiative to create AI2L, but we are building this network together and in public. Our goals are clear: to exchange knowledge, build bridges and create real business opportunities. We are setting up a joint calendar of events and a shared platform to broadcast news, views, projects and ideas.’

Brian Tang (ALITA co-chair): ‘ALITA looks forward to collaborating with other key stakeholders in the international lawtech and legal innovation community on sharing and growing knowledge, experience and impact from the Asia-Pacific perspective.’

Shreya Vajpei (Chief Ecosystem Officer & Founder, Indian Legal Tech Network): ‘At ILTN we’ve seen firsthand how community-led innovation can reshape legal systems for the better. As a founding member of AI2L, we are proud to represent India’s fast-growing LegalTech ecosystem – home to 500+ innovators driving change in access to justice, AI adoption, and legal service delivery.

‘This alliance is more than symbolic. It’s a powerful step toward global knowledge exchange, regulatory dialogue, and collaborative impact. We look forward to working with our partners worldwide to co-create a legal future that is inclusive, agile, and innovation-first.’

Marisa M. Borsboom (ELTA – APLT): ‘In a time of rapid disruption, AI2L stands as a global reminder that true legal innovation goes beyond automation or efficiency. It is about building technology that empowers its users, strengthens justice, and reinforces the ethical foundations of the legal ecosystem. We must create a legal tech market guided by clear standards, integrity, and a shared commitment to the common good. This alliance exists not only to connect continents, but to align purpose with progress, ensuring that legal transformation serves people, systems, and the very principles it was meant to protect.’
