According to reports, Tesla has partnered with Volcano Engine, and the newly released six-seat version of the Model Y (Model Y L) available in China will incorporate the Doubao and DeepSeek large models to enhance the voice assistant functionality and optimize the interactive experience of the smart cabin.
Tesla’s official website in China updated the “Tesla Vehicle Voice Assistant Usage Terms,” indicating that both large models are integrated through Volcano Engine. Doubao is responsible for handling voice command functions, such as navigation settings, media playback control, air conditioning temperature adjustment, and it also includes a vehicle owner’s manual inquiry feature. DeepSeek focuses on AI chatting services, providing a richer and more natural human-machine conversation experience. Owners can activate the voice assistant using physical buttons, saying “Hey, Tesla,” or using a custom wake word.
It is reported that the Model Y L was officially released on August 19, featuring a wheelbase extended by 150mm and adopting a “2+2+2” seating layout. The seating functions have been significantly upgraded, with performance capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and a CLTC range of 751 km. Equipped with the localized Doubao and DeepSeek, this is seen as a significant optimization by Tesla for the Chinese market. Previously, Tesla’s vehicle system was often criticized for being “not smart enough,” particularly when handling complex or vague Chinese commands. The introduction of new models is expected to effectively improve this situation. Unlike the Grok large model used by Tesla in the U.S., which can only chat and provide information, Doubao allows Chinese owners to issue direct control commands, making the interaction capabilities more suited to domestic usage scenarios.
Volcano Engine, as a cloud and AI service platform under ByteDance, has previously collaborated with many well-known car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and BYD, demonstrating its extensive service capabilities. DeepSeek, with its open-source advantages, has gained favor among many Chinese car manufacturers. Tesla’s choice to use it in conjunction with Doubao not only leverages DeepSeek’s conversational interaction advantages but also ensures the accuracy of control commands executed by Doubao.
For Tesla, this collaboration may also help it meet China’s compliance requirements regarding data processing and cross-border transmission. Some analysts believe this is a key measure for Tesla to strengthen its localization strategy, aiming to reverse the lagging smart cabin experience compared to local brands. Chinese consumers typically spend more time driving and value in-car entertainment and other intelligent experiences. Tesla’s update of the voice assistant functionality aligns with the domestic market’s higher demand for advanced smart cabins.
As of now, Tesla has not announced the official launch date for the Doubao and DeepSeek voice assistant, nor has it disclosed whether other models will have similar plans. However, the new features have attracted significant attention, and many consumers are eager to see if the actual interactive experience will enable the Model Y L’s smart cabin to reach the leading standard of domestic smart vehicles.
The Tesla Model Y new six-seat version is priced at 339,000 yuan, with deliveries expected to begin in September. Whether it can attract more Chinese family users who value intelligent interaction experiences will be worth watching in the future.返回搜狐,查看更多
