There will not be an edition of the Taipei Dangdai in 2026 as the art fair undergoes a “strategic re-evaluation, according to a recent announcement from organizers.
The Art Assembly art fair will undertake “a close examination of the model, timing, scale and format of any future activities”, according to a statement posted on the fair’s website.
Taipai Dangdai held its sixth edition in May of this year. The event received financial support from UBS and is among three regional art fairs in Asia overseen by the international fair conglomerate The Art Assembly. The other two are Art SG in Singapore and Tokyo Gendai in Yokohama, Japan. Exhibition consultancy firm Angus Montgomery Arts is also a principal and founding shareholder of all three art fairs.

The first edition of the fair took place in January 2019 and was led by Magnus Renfrew, the former director of Art Basel Hong Kong. The fair more than 90 participating galleries, including mega-galleries Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and David Zwirner. Blue-chip galleries which also participated in the inaugural edition included Sadie Coles HQ, Perrotin, White Cube, Lehmann Maupin, and Lisson Gallery.
The number of participating galleries shrank to 54 by this year’s edition, with none of the mega-galleries participating.
The news of Taipei Dangdai’s hiatus for 2026 followed the recent announcement from the Art Dealers Association of America (ADAA) it will not be holding the 37th edition of its flagship art fair, The Art Show, at the Park Avenue Armory this October.
In an email to members on Wednesday reviewed by ARTnews, ADAA leadership cited a “strategic pause” as the reason behind cancelling, adding that the board had made the decision “after careful review.” The fair was originally scheduled to open with a benefit preview on October 28.
Notably, information about previous editions of Taipei Dangdai has been removed from its website, and the art fair has been removed from the website of Angus Montgomery Arts. The Instagram page for the Art Assembly appears to be disabled.
Angus Montgomery Arts’s division Creo Arts organizes Photofairs, but the debut edition scheduled for Hong Kong this year was called off in December, and a second edition of Photofairs in New York was cancelled for 2024.
Other art fairs in Angus Montgomery Art’s portfolio include Art Central in Hong Kong, the India Art Fair in New Delhi, Sydney Contemporary, and the Aotearoa Art Fair, in Auckland, New Zealand.
