Apple is gearing up to roll out its highly anticipated software upgrade-iOS 26, next month, alongside the iPhone 17 lineup launch. One of the biggest news items of this update is that it is not going to be any other routine update. This one will pack a major artificial intelligence boost, as Apple’s intelligence will soon get the power of OpenAI’s latest GPT-5 model.

The upcoming iPhone 17 lineup is about to get significant improvements, including smarter SIRI responses, improved writing assistance, and more. Hence, our iPhones are about to be more capable of handling everyday AI-driven tasks.

GPT-5 Comes to iPhones with iOS 26

With the arrival of iOS 26, Apple is confirming to switch to the GPT-5 model for a more advanced and human-like AI experience. Currently, iPhones use the GPT-4o model via Apple Intelligence. The upcoming upgrade of GPT-5 to Apple Intelligence will be available for iPhone 15 Pro models, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 series. Additionally, GPT-5 will also make its way to other Apple devices via iPadOS 26 and macOS Tahoe 26.

Here’s How iPhone Users Can Access GPT-5

As soon as iOS 26 is installed, the GPT-5 will be integrated directly with Siri, and hence, users will be able to simply call on Siri and get GPT-5-powered answers. This upgrade will bring creative text generation or quick problem-solving without opening any separate app.

Another way to use GPT-5 will be through Apple’s Writing Tools, allowing users to compose, refine, or rewrite text in built-in apps like Notes, Mail, and Pages. Visual intelligence features will also benefit, letting users ask GPT-5 about objects, places, or images on their device.

What are the Limitations and Other Features

Talking about the GPT-5, it will also have some usage limitations, and hence, there will be several features that could only be unlocked via paid access. This includes richer AI image generation. Alongside GPT-5 integration, iOS 26 will bring Live Translation to FaceTime, Phone, and Messages, enhanced image search, and improved image generation in Image Playground.

The arrival of GPT-5 in iOS 26 marks a turning point for Apple’s AI ambitions. With smarter responses, better creative tools, and more natural interactions, iPhones are becoming not just smartphones but truly intelligent companions. All eyes are now on September, when the update goes live for eligible devices.
