Filevine has bought Parrot, a platform for transcribing, scheduling, and managing depositions. This marks Filevine’s third strategic acquisition, the US company said. It’s also another M&A deal within the legal tech market, in this case involving a genAI element related to litigation work.
In terms of what Filevine does, they explained they have a ‘mission to deliver a single pane of glass where legal professionals can manage, track, and complete every aspect of their cases’.
Meanwhile Parrot has developed deposition tools, including livestream and instant transcript capabilities, editable video clips, and AI-generated narrative, and topic-based summaries. The platform also offers automated medical record summarization, complete with linked timelines and documents.
With this acquisition, which will see over 40 staff join Filevine, the company will ‘extend its footprint into remote deposition services, transcript automation, and medical record management – three of the most time-consuming and costly areas in litigation’, they explained.
Ryan Anderson, CEO of Filevine, said: ‘This acquisition is a pivotal leap forward in our mission to redefine legal work. We’re not just accelerating – we’re transforming how legal professionals operate. By uniting proprietary technology, premium services, and AI into a single, integrated platform, we’re empowering teams to move faster, think bigger, and lead the industry into a new era. The future of legal work isn’t coming – it’s being built right here, right now.’
Aaron O’Brien, CEO of Parrot, added: ‘Joining Filevine lets us bring our mission to life on a larger scale, combining our product-forward DNA with Filevine’s powerful platform and community of legal professionals.’
Is this a big deal? In terms of size it’s a medium-scale M&A move, but the wider story is about how litigation is being changed by genAI. Because of language understanding and its multi-modal abilities genAI is well-suited to handling things like depositions, which can be lengthy and time-consuming to summarise and analyse. We’ve seen plenty of companies in this area leveraging genAI now, and it makes a lot of sense for Filevine to want to add this to their repertoire.
