Meta AI’s new tool makes editing short-form video content easier than ever

Meta’s latest AI-powered editing tools are designed to simplify content creation for creators, and artists – without needing editing skills.

Meta AI upgrades video editing

Meta has introduced a new AI-powered video editing tool using Meta AI. These tools are now available in the Meta AI app, on the Meta.AI website, and Edits– Meta’s answer to TikTok’s CapCut.

At its core, the new feature helps creators transform short-form videos (up to 10 seconds long) from a range of 50 presets. These AI prompts let you tweak everything from outfits to lighting, background to art styles.

This launch is fairly limited, but it marks the first step in Meta’s bigger push toward AI video generation and editing tools. It’s inspired by Meta’s upcoming Movie Gen model, which is expected to drop later this year. Movie Gen will allow users to generate fully edited videos using nothing but text prompts- letting you have full creative control over your AI video edits..

Designed with creators in mind

Meta says it developed these presets alongside creators, making sure the available styles appeal to their audiences, and can be easily included for everyone to use in the Edits app.

Examples of the presets include:

Alter your outfit into a space suitChange background lighting from a rainy day to shimmery sparklesTransform your video into a vintage comic book illustrationTurn real-life footage into something that looks straight out of a video game

The idea is to make it easier to create edited, shareable content, with Meta’s tools being directly integrated to Instagram and Facebook. Meta hopes that the feature will make it easier for anyone to create “high-quality video edits without video-editing expertise”.

“We built this feature so that everyone can experiment creatively and make fun, interesting videos to share… We also think it can transform the way creators make content on our platforms… and because our video editing features is built into the Edits app, it can become a seamless part of the creative process.”

How can artists and creators use it

For artists and creators, Meta AI’s new tool could open up content opportunities. Whether you’re promoting your latest release, creating visualizers for Reels, or just experimenting with your style, you can now generate edited content in just a few clicks. This is especially useful for independent musicians and labels who don’t have access to professional video editors or large marketing budgets.

Where can you try it?

The feature is currently available in the US and more than a dozen countries. You can find it across the Meta AI app, Meta.AI website, and Meta’s Edits app. Videos edited with these tools can be shared instantly to Facebook and Instagram, or to the Meta Discover Feed.

For now, usage is limited to 10-second videos and a fixed set of presets for free, but Meta says more customization options are coming later this year.

While the tool is somewhat restrictive, it’s an exciting preview of what’s to come. With Movie Gen on the horizon, the future of video editing could be as easy as typing out your vision.
