Pioneering genAI platform Legora is to partner with Deloitte Legal in the UK on a range of needs, which will also see the Big Four legal arm ‘provide hands-on support for clients [in] developing and implementing … AI strategies and tools’.
The move is more than a nice revenue earner for Legora, given that Deloitte has a vast client base of large corporates and thus the legal AI company gets additional access to these via Deloitte Legal and the rest of the Deloitte business in the UK.
They said: ‘Deloitte Legal and Legora share the strategic vision that AI can transform the value of legal through the delivery of better business outcomes. Realising this vision involves a profound reshaping of the operating model for both in-house teams and law firms, moving past task-based productivity gains into full-service redesign.’
Let’s repeat that bit: reshaping the operating model. Now, that’s a theme plenty of folks – including Artificial Lawyer – have been going on about for a long time, and we are indeed starting to see the first signs of substantive change, as well as new ‘AI-hybrid law firms’ coming to market. But, let’s see where this goes.
More broadly, many legal tech companies seek to hook up with the Big Four because of their massive client reach, for example many CLM companies have done so, and Harvey early on in their journey in 2023 hooked up with PwC. Have these deals been totally transformative? Probably not. Have they been a net benefit to both? Almost certainly.
There are also wins for Deloitte here: ‘The collaboration brings together Deloitte’s legal and consulting expertise for in-house legal and law firms, with the experience of adopting Legora in their own business’. I.e. they’ll bag some consulting money as well.
And ‘Deloitte Legal UK will develop pre-built solutions and custom workflows for specific use-cases on the platform, which will be made available as part of their offering to help transform ways of working for in-house teams and law firms who are using Legora’.
So, a big commitment from Deloitte here, as they partner very closely with this legal AI company and seek to provide consulting and products to their clients.
Richard Punt, Deloitte Legal Global and UK leader, commented: ‘At Deloitte Legal, delivering business solutions to legal issues is at the heart of our approach. Our collaboration with Legora is an exciting development as we share a strategic vision for AI-driven transformation of legal services. Together, we will help our clients provide more insightful, efficient, and effective legal solutions and re-design how legal services are delivered, providing new value and better outcomes.’
And Max Junestrand, CEO of Legora, added: ‘Legora’s platform has always been built on collaboration between the finest legal and technical minds. This new relationship with Deloitte Legal allows us to push the boundaries of what legal technology can achieve and set a new standard for the delivery of legal services. Together, we’re equipping Deloitte Legal’s own team – and their client base – with customised, cutting-edge AI solutions to transform their operations – helping them to work smarter, faster, and deliver better outcomes.’
AL looks forward to hearing how this progresses.
