Latham & Watkins Picks Harvey For Firmwide Deployment – Artificial Lawyer

Leading US law firm Latham & Watkins has chosen Harvey for its AI productivity platform, in what is a significant client win given that Latham is the second-largest firm in the US, with revenues over $7 billion and more than 3,600 lawyers.

It’s also – and it goes without saying now – an important win in relation to market share. Harvey recently mentioned they had 42 of the AmLaw 100 as customers – and Latham is one of them.

Harvey noted that Latham had now signed an ‘enterprise license for firmwide rollout of the platform and its full suite of generative AI solutions. The large-scale deployment will make Harvey widely available across the firm’s more than 3,600 attorneys globally, as well as business professionals that support the delivery of legal services’.

We don’t know what the licence fee is, but a deal for so many lawyers and staff will clearly be a notable revenue boost for Harvey.

The deal will also see Latham ‘have all attorneys trained … [on Harvey] by the end of the year, with attorneys leveraging the suite of AI solutions for various aspects of legal work, including research, document analysis, drafting, and more’.

Rene Mendoza, Chief Information Officer at Latham & Watkins, commented: ‘Latham has a long track record of investing in leading-edge technologies to support our team in the service of our clients, with Harvey being the latest addition. We have consistently championed the integration of emerging technologies and AI throughout our business, and Harvey not only supports these goals but also accelerates them.’

LeeAnn Black, Chief Operating Officer at Latham & Watkins, added: ‘We will continue to make significant investments in generative AI and advanced technology solutions as part of our comprehensive innovation strategy, driving transformation in both legal service delivery and business operations, while maintaining our commitment to excellence and superior client service.’

And Harvey CEO, Winston Weinberg, concluded: ‘Latham has a reputation for top-tier talent, excellence and client service, and our team at Harvey is thrilled to support them. We want to be the trusted AI platform for the world’s leading law firms and we are honoured that, after extensive evaluation, Latham has chosen to deploy Harvey at scale across the business.’

Is this a big deal?

Well, as noted by AL with other client wins of this kind, every major law firm that brings in a firmwide AI productivity platform like this, tends to mean a multi-year relationship. Rivals, including Legora, are also going after the same law firms – as although there are millions of lawyers in the world, the top firms are the most sought after customers.

In which case, every client win matters. Legora meanwhile this year has signed another leading US law firm: Cleary Gottlieb, and also several UK-based firms including Mishcon de Reya and BCLP.
