IBM closing Coppell Texas facility, laying off 59 employees

The employees are expected to be laid off by Nov. 30, 2025, according to a letter filed with the Texas Workforce Commission.

COPPELL, Texas — Tech giant IBM is closing a North Texas facility and laying off employees, according to a notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission.

IBM confirmed in a letter to the Texas Workforce Commission that it is shuttering its facility at 1177 S Belt Line Road in Coppell, which will impact 59 employees.

The company said in the June 30 letter that 53 of the employees are expected to be laid off Aug. 29, 2025, with the remaining expected to be laid off by Nov. 30, 2025.

“Affected employees will be eligible for a broad range of services and assistance designed to support them through this transition. Elements include both payment and continuing benefits, as well as access to outplacement services, retraining assistance, personal financial planning and career counseling for the employee, and personal counseling services for employees and their family members if they choose to use them,” the letter said.

The majority of the employees impacted are digital sales specialists, digital technical specialists or sales development representatives, according to the letter.

The letter doesn’t specify whether the employees might be allowed to move to other IBM facilities.

IBM’s letter on its plans to close its Coppell facility comes after the company laid off 8,000 employees from its human resources department as it implemented a new artificial intelligence system for routine HR tasks, as our content partners at the Dallas Business Journal reported.

IBM isn’t the only large tech company to announce layoffs in recent months. Microsoft in May announced plans to lay off 6,000 workers in the company’s largest layoffs since 2023.
