Tech giant IBM (IBM) and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) announced that new AI-powered tools will be featured on USOpen.org and the US Open app during this year’s tournament. These tools were developed by IBM and the USTA in order to provide fans with more coverage. Indeed, one key feature, Match Chat, is an interactive assistant that fans can use during or after any of the 254 singles matches. It allows users to ask questions—such as which player has converted more break points—or select from suggested prompts.

The tool is built on IBM’s watsonx Orchestrate platform, using large language models like IBM Granite, and is trained on the tournament’s editorial style to generate real-time responses based on match data. Other tools include an updated SlamTracker, which now provides live “Likelihood to Win” projections for every singles match. These probabilities change throughout the match by factoring in stats, expert input, and momentum shifts. Also returning is AI Commentary, which uses artificial intelligence to generate both audio and subtitles for post-match highlights.
These updates come as demand for more interactive and personalized digital experiences continues to rise. In fact, a global survey by Morning Consult that was commissioned by IBM found that 86% of tennis fans value AI-powered tools, especially for real-time insights and custom highlights. As a result, the USTA’s Brian Ryerson explained that the organization has worked closely with IBM in order to build a long-term technology plan.

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on IBM stock based on eight Buys, five Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Furthermore, the average IBM price target of $294.69 per share implies 22.25% upside potential.
