IBM and SAP have unveiled a strategic enhancement to the RISE with SAP journey by introducing IBM Cloud as a new hyperscaler option for SAP Cloud ERP Private, available on IBM Power Virtual Server. This development is targeted at more than 10,000 businesses that currently operate mission-critical SAP workloads on IBM Power infrastructure.
The new option enables rapid migration of SAP S/4HANA workloads from on-premises IBM Power servers to IBM Cloud within 90 days, offering a 15–25% reduction in migration time compared to traditional Power-to-x86 transitions. Designed for organisations seeking high availability, security, and operational continuity, IBM Power Virtual Server provides a robust foundation for enterprise SAP landscapes.
IBM has already deployed this architecture across its global operations, modernising SAP systems in 175 countries. The result: 30% lower infrastructure operations costs and 100% uptime since go-live. This large-scale deployment stands as proof of concept for the efficiency and reliability of SAP Cloud ERP Private on IBM Power Virtual Server.
To further ease the transformation, IBM is also launching a Transformation Suite for SAP applications, integrating automation tools, services, and partner support to simplify migration. The company’s investment program offers early-stage migration support, technical assessments, and buyback options for eligible IBM Power10 servers running SAP.
Major SAP ecosystem players, including Infosys, Wipro, and Seidor, have partnered with IBM to assist businesses in hybrid cloud adoption and cost-optimised cloud ERP transitions. Infosys, in particular, has introduced a near-zero cost migration service, while Wipro has welcomed the move for enhancing hybrid cloud performance and compliance.
