Marriottsville, MD – Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services’ (HCDFRS) Fire Chief Louis Winston today announced that Jeremy Clancy has been named the department’s newest Deputy Chief. A full resolution photo of Deputy Chief Clancy is available here.
“Chief Clancy is an outstanding leader with the experience to help lead our already great department into the future,” said Fire Chief Louis Winston. “His expertise, combined with his technical skills and strategic approach make him a great fit for the position of Deputy Chief.”
Clancy, whose appointment became effective on Monday, July 28, has served the department for 20 years, rising through the ranks from Firefighter to Assistant Chief. He has helped lead in the department’s Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Services Bureau. He holds a Master of Science degree in Homeland Security Management from the University of Maryland.
“With two decades of experience, Chief Clancy possesses the knowledge and experience to propel our Department of Fire and Rescue Services further in its mission to educate, protect, and serve the people of Howard County. Our firefighters are the best of the best, and Chief Clancy is no exception,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball.
Clancy has served on the department’s Special Operations team since 2005 and is a long-standing member of Maryland Task Force One as a Hazmat Specialist. He is a seasoned instructor in the area of hazardous materials and biological hazard response and was the pioneer of Howard County’s hazardous materials permitting program.
“As a county resident with school-aged children, Howard County is my home, and I’m grateful to Fire Chief Louis Winston and County Executive Ball for the opportunity to demonstrate my commitment to the department and those we are sworn to protect,” said Deputy Chief Clancy. “It’s a privilege to continue serving alongside the dedicated civilian and uniformed professionals who set the standard in our field.”
In addition to the appointment of Deputy Chief Clancy, the department announced the promotion of two other department personnel, including an Assistant Chief and Battalion Chief, also effective July 28.
