Harvey has announced a €50m strategic investment from EQT Growth, the early stage venture group of the global EQT investment fund. It’s unusual as it falls outside the regular main rounds that it has announced before. In this case it’s described as a ‘Series E extension’.
In June this year, the rapidly growing genAI startup secured a $300m Series E capital raise led by Kleiner Perkins and Coatue – at a $5bn valuation.
One of the world’s largest investors, EQT now joins an existing suite of strategic backers including Sequoia, Google Ventures, Elad Gil, Kleiner Perkins, Coatue, the OpenAI Startup Fund, and RELX Ventures.
Harvey is currently used by 700 customers in 58 countries across the US, Europe, and Asia, and has legal data partnerships with LexisNexis and Wolters Kluwer. They also noted it now has 45 of the AmLaw 100 law firms as customers.
Patrick McBride, Managing Director at EQT, said: ‘At EQT we have the privilege of backing some of the world’s best technology businesses. Having looked at the AI professional services market in great detail, it was clear that Harvey was the leader to bet on. Their product, team, adoption, usage and client roster are standouts not just in their market but among software companies more broadly.’
Winston Weinberg, Co-Founder at Harvey, added: ‘Legal teams need a fast pace on AI innovation and the highest commitment to security and privacy. Harvey’s goal is to provide both. Our partnership with EQT, one of the world’s largest private investors and a leader in Europe and Asia, reflects our commitment to delivering for customers not just in the US but on a global scale.’
And Dominik Stein, Partner and Head of EQT Growth, concluded: ‘EQT’s deep European heritage, combined with its global platform at scale across Europe, Asia and North America, is perfectly placed to support Harvey as it continues to build upon its leading positions in Europe and the US. We’re incredibly excited to partner with the company in this exciting stage of growth.’
