GSA Secures Meta Llama AI Agreement for Federal Government Use

The General Services Administration (GSA) announced a OneGov agreement with Meta that provides federal agencies with streamlined access to Llama open source AI models, supporting President Trump’s AI Action Plan for government operations.

Free Access to Meta Llama Models
Under the agreement announced Monday, federal agencies can access Meta’s Llama AI models without procurement negotiations or licensing fees. The open source nature eliminates typical acquisition barriers while giving agencies full control over data processing and storage.

Federal Acquisition Service Commissioner Josh Gruenbaum stated that “GSA is driving an unprecedented acceleration of AI adoption across the federal government” through these OneGov initiatives. GSA focused on backend work to ensure Llama meets federal security requirements.

Open Source Benefits for Government
Meta’s open source Llama models enable federal agencies to build, deploy, and scale AI applications cost-effectively while maintaining transparency standards.

“America is leading on AI, and we want to make sure all Americans see the benefit of AI innovation through better, more efficient public services,” said Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

OneGov Initiative Expansion
This agreement builds on GSA’s OneGov initiative launched in April to modernize federal IT acquisitions. The program has secured deals with Oracle, Google, Adobe, Salesforce, OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, and ServiceNow. GSA officials are working to extend short-term agreements to maintain continuity for adopting agencies.

The GSA-Meta partnership demonstrates how open source AI can accelerate government digital transformation while reducing costs and maintaining federal security standards.
