Google's Flow turns AI Video Generation into a Full-fledged Filmmaking Tool

Google’s new AI filmmaking tool called Flow wants to do for video what generative AI has already done for images — make creation accessible to everyone with a good prompt and a subscription.

Key Points

Flow combines Google’s Veo 3, Imagen, and Gemini models into a cohesive filmmaking platformBuilt on Google’s Veo 3 and Imagen 4 models, it offers realistic visuals and audio.Available now in the U.S. through Google’s AI Pro and AI Ultra subscription plans.

Google officially launched Flow today, a new AI-powered filmmaking platform that transforms the company’s generative video capabilities into a comprehensive creative tool. Announced at Google I/O 2025, Flow builds upon Google’s previous VideoFX experiment but expands its capabilities dramatically, positioning it as a storytelling platform rather than just a video generator.

“Flow is inspired by what it feels like when time slows down and creation is effortless, iterative and full of possibility,” according to Google’s announcement. It’s built specifically for Veo 3, the company’s latest video model, which can now generate sound effects, background sounds, and character dialogue directly within videos.

What separates Flow from basic text-to-video tools is its focus on continuity and filmmaking. Once you’ve created characters or scenes, you can reuse these “ingredients” across multiple clips while maintaining consistency — a critical feature for true storytelling that most other AI video generators struggle with.

The platform includes several filmmaker-focused features: Camera Controls for adjusting motion and angles, Scenebuilder for extending scenes and revealing more of the action with continuous motion, and an Asset Management system for organizing creative elements. There’s also Flow TV, where you can see other users’ creations along with the prompts used to make them, serving as both inspiration and learning tool.

For those wanting to try it, Flow is available starting today to subscribers of Google AI Pro (which provides 100 generations per month) and Google AI Ultra plans in the US, with more countries coming soon. The Ultra plan, priced at $249.99 monthly, offers the highest usage limits and early access to Veo 3’s audio generation capabilities.

The company views AI tools like Flow as enablers, potentially empowering a new wave of filmmakers and storytellers. While acknowledging that it’s still early days for AI in filmmaking, Google sees immense potential for Flow to unlock new voices and creative expressions, positioning it as a key part of this evolving landscape.
