Vishal Sikka: Over one thousand searches
Vishal Sikka is trending on Google after a viral LinkedIn post reignited debate over Infosys’ missed opportunity to invest in OpenAI back in 2015. According to CA Meenal Goel, a clash between Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and then-CEO Vishal Sikka led the company to walk away from a proposed $1 billion investment in OpenAI—an investment now estimated to be worth $45 billion. Sikka, who led Infosys from 2014 to 2017, had pushed for an “AI-first” strategy, but internal disagreements over direction, compensation, and governance led to his resignation. The resurfaced story has sparked widespread discussion about India’s role in the global AI race and how corporate conservatism may have cost the country a leadership position. Sikka, now an advisor to OpenAI and India’s AI mission, is being praised for his foresight, while Infosys is being criticised for retreating to traditional IT services.
