Google has said they will be expanding AI Mode in Search to five new languages including Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Brazilian Portuguese. The company had first announced AI Mode as an experimental feature in Search in March this year in English, to take on emerging AI-powered search platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI.
“Building a truly global Search goes far beyond translation — it requires a nuanced understanding of local information. With the advanced multimodal and reasoning capabilities of our custom version of Gemini 2.5 in Search, we’ve made huge strides in language understanding, so our most advanced AI search capabilities are locally relevant and useful in each new language we support,” the blog posted by Google stated.
Last month, AI Mode added new agentic capabilities so users could look for restaurant reservations soon to include support for local service appointments and event tickets. However, this is just available for Google AI Ultra subscribers in the U.S. for now.
Earlier in July, the feature was rolled out in India.
