Free Semiconductor Courses & Certificates 2025: While inaugurating the Semicon India 2025 on September 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi affirmed that India is “late in semiconductor innovation”, but as the country gears up for its development, India has 10 semiconductor projects, which have a total of 18 billion dollars in investment. These small powerhouses are driving everything from smartphones to satellites.

With these projects in line, there is an expected surge in demand for skilled professionals in semiconductor design, manufacturing, and research. If you are a tech student exploring career paths or a curious learner eager to understand the building blocks of modern electronics, this article brings together a list of courses on semiconductors which can empower you and make you stay ahead in one of the world’s most critical industries.

SWAYAM Courses

Introduction to Semiconductor Devices

This course by Prof Naresh Kumar Emani from IIT Hyderabad offers a comprehensive foundation in the principles and applications of semiconductor technology. Designed primarily for undergraduate students in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, the course spans 12 weeks and covers essential topics such as p-n junctions, MOSFETs, solar cells, and LEDs.

While enrollment is free, learners can opt for a certification exam for a nominal fee. Want to know more? Head to:  onlinecourses.nptel.ac.in/noc21_ee59/preview

Fundamentals of semiconductor devices

This course by Prof Digbijoy Nath from IISc Bangalore offers an introduction to the physics and applications of semiconductor technology. Spanning 12 weeks, it covers key concepts such as energy bands, doping, carrier transport, and the operation of devices like p-n junctions, BJTs, and MOSFETs.

Free Cybersecurity courses

Designed for undergraduate students in ECE, EE, or Physics, it requires only high school-level physics and math, making it ideal for beginners.

Other courses to explore

MIT OpenCourse Ware

Though the course was taught at MIT in 2003 spring, by Prof Duane Boning for students of the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department, yet resources like classroom materials, assignments, projects, exams, and lecture notes are available in PDF format and are easy to download. Students may not get a certificate, but foundational and fundamental concepts can be worked on. These are meant for graduate-level students.

Purdue University and edX

The Semiconductor Fundamentals course by Purdue University on edX offers introduction to the physics behind modern electronic devices. Spanning six weeks, it covers essential topics such as energy bands, doping, carrier transport, quantum mechanics basics, and energy band diagrams — key tools for understanding how devices like transistors, diodes, and solar cells operate.

Designed for learners with a background in undergraduate physics, chemistry, and mathematics, the course blends concepts from electrical engineering, materials science, and thermodynamics.

It’s ideal for students, technology users, and developers seeking a deeper grasp of semiconductor behaviour at both macro and nanoscale levels.
