According to a report by Beijing News, on August 26, it was announced that the Doubao App has officially launched a minor mode. In this mode, features such as displaying answer videos, browsing third-party websites, conversing with intelligent agents outside of Doubao, and AI creations will be disabled by default. However, functions related to work and study, such as translation, information queries, and in-depth research, will still be available for normal use.
The minor mode in Doubao requires parents to set a password, and exiting or switching modes will require a second password confirmation to prevent minors from bypassing the settings.
Previously, some netizens reported that Doubao’s inclusion of corresponding short videos in the Q&A results could lead children to browse video content, which distracts them. A test conducted by the reporter found that after enabling the minor mode, no short video-related content is displayed or recommended in the Q&A. Additionally, users cannot converse with intelligent agents outside of the main Doubao bot.
As a new emerging business model, large model products still have significant exploration space in protecting the digital lives of young people. Doubao has stated that it will continue to optimize the experience of the minor mode to help both children and adults use AI with peace of mind.
