Data management startup Promethium Inc. has announced a major update to its Instant Data Fabric platform, making it compatible with “agentic” artificial intelligence to enable true “self-service data access at scale.”
The revamped platform is being enhanced with the launch of a new agentic chatbot called Mantra. According to the startup, Mantra is a “data answer agent” that can provide instant answers to people’s natural language questions about their data.
Founded in 2018, Promethium has created a data management tool that combines natural language processing with automated data preparation to deliver true self-service analytics. It’s meant to help data and analytics teams work smarter so they can stay ahead of growing data volumes and business needs.
Promethium has developed patented data profiling technology that reimagines data analytics. It’s designed for people who lack knowledge about data infrastructure and query languages, and helps them to dig up important insights locked within their company’s datasets.
Compared with other solutions, Promethium’s Instant Data Fabric offering has no requirement to centralize data first with an extract, transform and load or ETL process, prebuild models or create reports. There are no lengthy implementations because, in the company’s own words, “data is accessed where it is and does not have to be moved.” Users can connect data sources to Promethium and within minutes get data-driven decisions.
Data access for AI agents
The latest version of Promethium’s Instant Data Fabric is said to expand self-service access to data without running the risk of data duplication or creating new pipelines. The company argues that this is more vital than ever, because data continues to fragment across cloud, on-premises and software-as-a-service platforms, making it harder than ever for organizations to obtain much-needed insights that can inform business decision-making.
More important, these days it’s not just humans that need answers, but increasingly, AI agents also need to be able to tap into data quickly and dig up key insights. Yet most companies cannot do this, because they can only access their information by creating complex networks of extract, transform and load pipelines that can take weeks to build and require ongoing maintenance.
Promethium says it does away with the need to build these ETL pipelines, providing fast and unified data access across hundreds of different sources, combined with fine-grain access controls that allow not only humans, but also AI agents to access the vital information needed to perform their jobs. In addition, the new version features a 360° Context Engine that aims to overcome the disconnect between business questions and the underlying data, by aggregating metadata to provide more relevant insights for each user query.
It’s all capped off with the new conversational experience provided by Mantra, which is available in preview now and generates “Data Answers” that users can share, publish and integrate into existing enterprise platforms, tools and AI agents, without making any changes to their underlying workflows.
Data infrastructures are falling behind
Sanjeev Mohan, an analyst with the data advisory firm SanjMo, said data teams are under increasing pressure to deliver timely and trustworthy insights, but struggle to do this as they can barely keep up with the growth of the enterprise data landscape.
“A new architecture that enables open, agentic access to distributed data without adding friction is emerging,” he said. “By emphasizing automation, context, and self-service, Promethium’s approach empowers data teams to shift from reactive support to strategic impact. It’s a foundational change in how data is delivered and consumed in the age of AI.”
Promethium Chief Executive Prat Moghe said the new Instant Data Fabric is about helping enterprises to keep up with the pace of agentic AI’s evolution. He explained that AI agents are being adopted and integrated with enterprise systems at an unprecedented rate, and data architectures are falling behind.
“Most weren’t built to keep up,” he said. “But we’re giving data teams a new superpower with the ability to deliver trusted, contextual answers on demand. It’s the fastest, most open way to scale self-service data for the age of AI.”
