Cohere Technologies executive Art King told Mobile World Live the company is headed towards commercial deployment of its spectrum software by the end of this year or early 2026, as it ups an additional trial with Bell Canada.
While Cohere Technologies is benefitting from a relationship with a large, unnamed vendor for the rollout of its universal spectrum multiplier (USM) software, King, director, product management and marketing, said it is relationships with Bell Canada and Vodafone Group which are driving commercial deployments.
King said the target range for the commercialisation of its USM software is based on “what’s going on with Bell Canada and also the push by both Vodafone and Bell for our technology”.
Bell Canada and Vodafone have trialled Cohere Technologies’ USM software to improve the spectral efficiency of their open RAN networks.
Vodafone recorded a 50 per cent boost in spectral efficiency and Bell Canada targeted existing radio base stations for brownfield deployments.
The Bell Canada trial also involved integrating the software with a standard server located next to a base station at a mast site, or be stored in a data centre as part of the cloud.
King explained Cohere Technologies will work with Bell Canada on another trial to do “more scalability testing” over the coming months.
“We’re using small amounts of UEs and showing the pairing in the scheduler to demonstrate that it has efficacy.”
“When you get more than about 30 mobile devices in a sector, from a probabilities perspective, you can always pair up mobile devices. We’re just developing the stats and the information packages to prove the system is efficient.”
He said Cohere Technologies will run live trials in smaller areas to show all the measurements for the efficiency of the system.
The company has showcased impressive performance from trial work but the next, long-touted, step is to turn trials into commercial deals.
