The four curious creatures staring down passersby in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art trace back, in a way, to early paintings that Indigenous artist Jeffrey Gibson made on animal hides. At a talk on Monday introducing his new commissioned work for the museum’s facade, Gibson discussed two paintings from 2013 that feature his distinctive dynamic style on the surface of brain-tanned elk hides. Related Articles While painting on hides, he said, “you come across scars. You come across hair follicles. You’re reminded that it’s an animal. Had I done these paintings on canvas, they could be read as…

(Source: TA design/Shutterstock) In Athens, where ancient ideas once shaped the foundations of logic and reason, one of today’s leading scientific minds returned to talk about intelligence of a different kind. Demis Hassabis — CEO of DeepMind, and fresh off a Nobel Prize win — wasn’t interested in looking back. His focus was firmly on what’s coming next: a world being reshaped by artificial intelligence, one that may force us to rethink not just what we learn, but how we learn it. He spoke about the speed of change — how AI is already rewriting the rules in science, research,…

Organizations gain competitive advantage by deploying and integrating new generative AI models quickly through Generative AI Gateway architectures. This unified interface approach simplifies access to multiple foundation models (FMs), addressing a critical challenge: the proliferation of specialized AI models, each with unique capabilities, API specifications, and operational requirements. Rather than building and maintaining separate integration points for each model, the smart move is to build an abstraction layer that normalizes these differences behind a single, consistent API. The AWS Generative AI Innovation Center and Quora recently collaborated on an innovative solution to address this challenge. Together, they developed a unified…

If you are filled with too much childlike wonder, you might get relegated to a more kid-friendly version of ChatGPT. Tesla is officially ditching the development of a key Cybertruck charging feature, and the reason is very obvious, all things considered. The Cybertruck is among the most unique vehicles available on the market, and, like all Tesla vehicles, it has continued to improve through Over-the-Air software updates that enhance performance, safety, and other technological features. However, the development of some features, while great on paper, turns out to be more difficult than expected. One of these features is the presence of wireless charging on the all-electric pickup, a capability Tesla has been working to integrate across its entire vehicle lineup.…

The vast majority of New Yorker covers over the magazine’s 100-year history have been illustrations. Only two issues broke that mold: a William Wegman portrait of a Weimaraner on the February 20 and 28, 2000, cover, and, more recently, a Cindy Sherman self-portrait on the September 1 and 8, 2025, issue. Both depicted the subjects as variations on the magazine’s beloved Eustace Tilley mascot. The New Yorker has now tripled that figure by hiring six contemporary photographers—Marilyn Minter, Awol Erizku, Ryan McGinley, Collier Schorr, Camila Falquez, and Alex Prager—to reimagine historical illustrated covers via celebrity portraits, in honor of the…
