As the new Tesla Model Y arrived at a local showroom for Demo Drives, I swiftly signed up for one to compare the legacy model to what the company is hoping is an even better version of its best-selling vehicle. Coming off of a Legacy Model Y Demo Drive just two months ago, as I was planning to buy one, I had a good understanding of what was improved and what was not. To make a long story short, I’m really happy I did not pull the trigger on the Legacy Model Y in February. The new Tesla Model Y…
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to transform industries across the globe, the EU has taken significant strides to regulate its deployment, use and implementation and to mitigate associated risks. The 2024 AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689), presented by the European Commission (EC) as “the first-ever comprehensive legal framework on AI worldwide,” creates a set of risk-based rules regarding specific uses of AI. It came into effect on August 1, 2024, and will be fully enforceable in August 2026. Certain provisions (mostly prohibition on use) took effect in advance, on February 2, 2025. On February 4 and 6, 2025, the European…
NVIDIA has announced a foundation AI model for humanoid robots called NVIDIA Isaac GR00T N1, aka GR00T N1. The chip maker announced that this pre-trained AI model is available as open-source. The announcement came at the company’s annual GTC conference, which took place in San Jose, California, on March 18. NVIDIA has announced the GR00T N1, a foundation AI model for humanoid robots NVIDIA reportedly trained the GR00T N1 AI model on existing datasets and synthetically generated data. For those unaware, synthetic data is artificially created using computational methods and simulations and mimics the statistical properties of real-world data. The…
A new paper co-authored by the former CEO of Google has outlined a future where AI training data centers could be blown up by foreign nations.Eric Schmidt, along with Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang and the Center for AI Safety’s Dan Hendrycks, warned that “destabilizing AI developments could rupture the balance of power and raise the odds of great-power conflict.”The paper lays out the concept of Mutual Assured AI Malfunction (MAIM), modeled on nuclear mutual assured destruction (MAD), where any “aggressive bid for unilateral AI dominance is met with preventive sabotage by rivals.”This could involve espionage, cyberattacks, or kinetic strikes…
Dealstack, a private equity-focused platform founded by former Kirkland & Ellis partner Joel Arnell and ex-Oaktree Capital investor Seb Lapinski, has gained $5.5m in an angel-heavy Seed funding round with investment from current and former senior professionals at Paul Weiss, others at Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, KKR, CVC, TA Associates, and Goldman Sachs. In March, Esther Chiang, who most recently was at Paul Hastings and also spent time at Kirkland & Ellis, launched SmartEsq, a startup designed to massively reduce legal costs for private equity (PE) fund formation. In short, senior folks from top law firms are increasingly…

Following an outcry, the National Park Services restored a website about the history of the Underground Railroad, including a photo of abolitionist Harriet Tubman, to what appears to be its original form, reports The Washington Post. Earlier this week, the same publication revealed that the NPS had edited dozens of webpages it operates, following President Trump’s inauguration, seemingly to remove or soften references to slavery, racial division, the civil rights struggle, and more. However, public backlash was strong against the erasure of a prominent photo of Tubman…

Chinese tech giants like Alibaba (BABA), Tencent (TCEHY), and ByteDance have placed over $16 billion in orders for Nvidia’s (NVDA) H20 AI chips during the first quarter of 2025, according to The Information. The rush in demand comes amid concerns that the U.S. may soon ban the sale of these chips to China. While Nvidia has not commented, these orders could significantly boost revenue if the company manages to deliver the chips before any restrictions take effect.Don’t Miss Our End of Quarter Offers: The H20 is currently allowed in China, but it’s less powerful than Nvidia’s Blackwell chips, which are…
Vision Foundation Models (VFMs) and Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have gained traction in Domain Generalized Semantic Segmentation (DGSS) due to their strong generalization capabilities. However, existing DGSS methods often rely exclusively on either VFMs or VLMs, overlooking their complementary strengths. VFMs (e.g., DINOv2) excel at capturing fine-grained features, while VLMs (e.g., CLIP) provide robust text alignment but struggle with coarse granularity. Despite their complementary strengths, effectively integrating VFMs and VLMs with attention mechanisms is challenging, as the increased patch tokens complicate long-sequence modeling. To address this, we propose MFuser, a novel Mamba-based fusion framework that efficiently combines the strengths of VFMs…
Prompt caching, now generally available on Amazon Bedrock with Anthropic’s Claude 3.5 Haiku and Claude 3.7 Sonnet, along with Nova Micro, Nova Lite, and Nova Pro models, lowers response latency by up to 85% and reduces costs up to 90% by caching frequently used prompts across multiple API calls. With prompt caching, you can mark the specific contiguous portions of your prompts to be cached (known as a prompt prefix). When a request is made with the specified prompt prefix, the model processes the input and caches the internal state associated with the prefix. On subsequent requests with a matching…
