OpenAI, founded in 2015 to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) — AI systems with human-level intelligence — has transformed dramatically since launching ChatGPT, which was once considered to be “the fastest-growing consumer application in history.” Most cofounders have left either to create a competitor or work for one. The company has secured billions in funding and partnerships with Apple and Microsoft, even announcing a $500 billion datacenter project called Stargate. Meanwhile, it faces copyright lawsuits from authors and news organizations, legal action from cofounder Elon Musk over the company’s alleged departure from its original mission, and criticism for burning through…

While recent works have achieved impressive progress in understanding and generating human poses, they often support only a single modality of control signals and operate in isolation, limiting their application in real-world scenarios. This paper presents UniPose, a framework employing Large Language Models (LLMs) to comprehend,…

Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.A research team from MIT’s Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has developed a new software tool that makes it easier to design and make cable-driven 3D printed objects. The tool, called Xstrings, can be used to produce a variety of products with embedded actuation, from robotic hands with gripping capabilities to interactive sculptures with animal-like movement.Cable-driven mechanisms are frequently used by engineers to create components that can move fluidly like a human or animal. This movement is generated by pulling…

Attackers can attack systems with IBM’s application integration software, App Connect Enterprise. Malicious code can get onto PCs and compromise them. This has been patched before, but the security update was incomplete. The developers have now released a repaired patch. There are still no reports of attackers exploiting the vulnerability. Critical security vulnerability The vulnerability (CVE-2025-1302 “critical”) affects the jsonpath-plus module for processing JSON configurations. Because input is not sufficiently checked, attackers can use crafted requests here and end up executing malicious code. The vulnerability made headlines back in December 2024 with the identifier CVE-2024-21534. As the developers have since…

The MIT Bitcoin Club—a passionate coalition of students, alumni, researchers, and community members—presents the 12th annual MIT Bitcoin Expo (April 5–6, 2025), a landmark event exploring how Bitcoin and freedom technologies empower individuals worldwide. With just 5 days remaining, this student-led initiative continues its decade-long tradition of bridging academia, activism, and technical innovation. Why This Matters Born from MIT’s 2014 Bitcoin Project—which distributed Bitcoin to undergraduates to study adoption—the expo has evolved into a critical forum for sovereignty-focused dialogue. This year’s agenda of freedom tech focuses on physical liberation through technology.  Speakers like Zimbabwean activist Evan Mawarire (#ThisFlag movement leader) and…

Databricks Inc. has snapped up a startup called BladeBridge Inc., which offers tools for migrating enterprise data warehouses. The big-data company said Wednesday it plans to integrate its technology with its own platform. The goal is to help companies move their workloads to its Structured Query Language analytics product Databricks SQL more easily. BladeBridge’s platform can automate the migration of workloads from more than 20 different data warehouses and extract, transact and load, or ETL, platforms. Unlike traditional migration tools, it uses large language models to aid in code analysis, before converting that code automatically. In doing this, companies can…

Image credit: Creative Commons Developers have the opportunity to weigh in on OpenAI’s latest project. On March 31, the AI giant published applications for feedback sessions on an upcoming open language model, the second such model since OpenAI’s LLMs went private after GPT-2. It will be released “in the coming months,” according to a post on X by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Open-weight models can be modified by their users. In particular, “weights” in generative AI refers to the connections between digital neurons; changing them might change which concepts the model associates together or the emphasis put on those associations.…

The funding will support the development and testing of “immersive environments” to apply in healthcare for purposes like training and virtual patient assessments. The investment will also support the implementation of the AI Act, which ensures all AI systems developed and used in the EU are done so safely and responsibly. Additionally, it will help build energy-efficient digital public digital infrastructure, including electric vehicle charging ports. Many of the generative AI models powering these initiatives will…
