Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives sees a brighter future for the automaker now that Elon Musk plans to reduce his time with the DOGE team. After the company’s latest earnings call, the long-time TSLA bull raised Tesla’s price target from $315 to $350 with a BUY rating. “Last night was a pivotal conference call for Musk to turn the corner from this dark chapter as 1Q numbers [ending] a disaster quarter in which deliveries were very soft and Tesla missed the Street on basically every metric. “More important than numbers, this was the time [Elon] Musk could pivot, speak to…

Google’s AI overviews in search are now coming to YouTube, with its own variation of AI discovery tools within YouTube’s search display. Which sounds a little strange, but with every platform looking to shove AI into everything, it also makes sense. As explained by YouTube: “We’re experimenting with a new video results carousel that appears after entering certain search queries. This new feature will use AI to highlight clips from videos that will be most helpful for your search query, providing another way to discover content when searching on YouTube as well as discover topics and information related to your…

Researchers from the Center for AI Safety (CAIS), MIT’s Media Lab, the Brazilian university UFABC, and the pandemic prevention non-profit SecureBio have found that leading artificial intelligence models can outperform experienced, PhD-level virologists in troubleshooting complex laboratory procedures. The findings, detailed in a new study introducing the Virology Capabilities Test (VCT), demonstrate AI’s proficiency in specialized scientific tasks but also highlight serious dual-use concerns, suggesting these tools could lower the barrier for creating dangerous biological agents. The VCT benchmark, consisting of 322 questions and detailed further in its research paper, was designed specifically to measure an AI’s ability to assist…
Shutterstock For decades, scientists have been captivated by the intricate sounds dolphins use to communicate. The clicks, whistles, and burst pulses are a language far beyond human understanding. While researchers have developed tools to capture and analyze these sounds, the true challenge lies in deciphering their patterns and uncovering their meaning. Now, with artificial intelligence advancing rapidly, could it finally help us crack the code? Google’s AI research lab, Google DeepMind, in collaboration with researchers at Georgia Tech and the field research of the Wild Dolphin Project (WDP), has created a new AI model, DolphinGemma, which they claim can decipher…
The next Gwangju Biennale will be organized not by a world-renowned curator but by an artist whose profile is fast-rising. Ho Tzu Nyen will organize the 2026 edition of South Korea’s Gwangju Biennale, which is regarded as one of the top biennial-style shows in Asia. It’s not the first time that Ho has organized a biennial—he did the Asian Art Biennale in 2019. Still, his appointment as artistic director is an anomaly within the history of the Gwangju Biennale, which is known for mounting edgy exhibitions by famed curators. Okwui Enwezor organized the biennial in 2008, seven years before doing…

Recent video large language models (Video LLMs) often depend on costly human annotations or proprietary model APIs (e.g., GPT-4o) to produce training data, which limits their training at scale. In this paper, we explore large-scale training for Video LLM with cheap automatic speech recognition (ASR) transcripts. Specifically, we propose a novel streaming training approach that densely interleaves the ASR words and video frames according to their timestamps. Compared to previous studies in vision-language representation with ASR, our method naturally fits the streaming characteristics of ASR, thus enabling the model to learn temporally-aligned, fine-grained vision-language modeling. To support the training algorithm,…
Emerging technology, when first being presented to the public-at-large, is bound to get people fearful and protective of the status quo. Such is the current case with AI and its practical application in multiple industries, particularly in the space of visual media arts, but rather than turn away, renowned filmmaker and technological innovator James Cameron is choosing to lean in. Last year, he joined the board of the generative AI company Stability AI and during a recent interview on the “Boz to the Future” podcast, he explained how the tech’s ability to shorten VFX workflow could truly be a game-changer…
