#deepseek #llm #grpo GRPO is one of the core advancements used in Deepseek-R1, but was introduced already last year in this paper that uses a combination of new RL techniques and iterative data collection to achieve remarkable performance on mathematics benchmarks with just a 7B model. Paper: Abstract: Mathematical reasoning poses a significant challenge for language models due to its complex and structured nature. In this paper, we introduce DeepSeekMath 7B, which continues pre-training DeepSeek-Coder-Base-v1.5 7B with 120B math-related tokens sourced from Common Crawl, together with natural language and code data. DeepSeekMath 7B has achieved an impressive score of 51.7%…

Microsoft is adding two new AI reasoning agents to its Microsoft 365 Copilot suite: Researcher and Analyst. These AI agents are designed to streamline workflows by handling multi-step processes that typically require significant time and expertise. The tech giant introduced these reasoning agents, which Microsoft says are “first-of-their-kind,” as part of its continued push to make AI a core part of productivity tools. Smarter AI for research and data analysis Researcher Researcher is built to handle in-depth, multi-step research projects. It combines OpenAI’s deep research model with Microsoft 365 Copilot’s advanced orchestration and deep search capabilities. It pulls information from…

Every CFO knows the pressure of making high-stakes financial decisions with limited visibility. When cash flow forecasts are off, businesses scramble, relying on costly short-term loans, missing financial targets, and struggling to optimize working capital. In fact, 82% of business failures are due to poor cash flow management.  AI-powered forecasting changes that dynamic, enabling CFOs to anticipate cash flow gaps before they become financial setbacks. The cash flow blind spot: Where forecasting falls short…

We introduce Anthology, a method for conditioning LLMs to representative, consistent, and diverse virtual personas by generating and utilizing naturalistic backstories with rich details of individual values and experience. What does it mean for large language models (LLMs) to be trained on massive text corpora, collectively produced by millions and billions of distinctive human authors? In “Language Models as Agent Models”, compelling evidence suggests that recent language models could be considered models of agents: provided with a textual context, LLMs are capable of generating conditional text that represents the characteristics of an agent likely to have produced that context. This…

[THEME MUSIC FADES] What I read there at the top is a passage from Chapter 2 of the book, which captures part of what we’re going to cover in this episode.  In our book, we predicted how AI would be leveraged in the clinic. Some of those predictions, I felt, were slam dunks, for example, AI being used to listen to doctor-patient conversations and write clinical notes. There were already early products coming out in the world not using generative AI that were doing just that. But other predictions we made were bolder, for instance, on the use of generative…

Buck2, our new open source, large-scale build system, is now available on GitHub. Buck2 is an extensible and performant build system written in Rust and designed to make your build experience faster and more efficient.  In our internal tests at Meta, we observed that Buck2 completed builds 2x as fast as Buck1. Buck2, Meta’s open source large-scale build system, is now publicly available via the Buck2 website and the Buck2 GitHub repository. While it shares some commonalities with other build systems (like Buck1 and Bazel), Buck2 is a from-scratch rewrite. Buck2 features a complete separation of the core and language-specific…
