Ant Group is relying on Chinese-made semiconductors to train artificial intelligence models to reduce costs and lessen dependence on restricted US technology, according to people familiar with the matter. The Alibaba-owned company has used chips from domestic suppliers, including those tied to its parent, Alibaba, and Huawei Technologies to train large language models using the Mixture of Experts (MoE) method. The results were reportedly comparable to those produced with Nvidia’s H800 chips, sources claim. While Ant continues to use Nvidia chips for some of its AI development, one sources said the company is turning increasingly to alternatives from AMD and…

The AI Hype Hall of Fame, as envisioned by Grok“We should stop training scientists now. It’s just completely obvious that within three years, AI is going to do better than Nobel Laureates.” is the new “We should stop training radiologists now. It’s just completely obvious that within five years, deep learning is going to do better than radiologists.” §The latter quote is of course from Geoff Hinton, 2016, and it deserves to be the centerpiece in an AI Hype Hall of Fame, along with Elon Musk’s 2019 prediction“I feel very confident predicting that there will be autonomous robotaxis from Tesla…
Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts have faced unprecedented challenges in 2025. Major companies are adjusting their approach to workplace diversity programs in response to the DEI rollbacks from President Trump’s administration. While some corporations are doubling down on their DEI commitments, others are scaling back initiatives due to the shifting legal landscape, political pressures, and financial considerations. The ramifications from a branding perspective are yet to be fully understood, but consumers and talent are understandably questioning whether organizations ever believed in the policies in the first place, further destabilizing confidence. In this article, I explore the changing landscape of…

On February 28, 2025, Andrej Karpathy, a prominent figure in the AI community, released the results of a significant poll concerning AI development, which was documented on his Twitter account at 12:00 PM EST (Karpathy, 2025). The poll, conducted over a week, gathered 50,000 responses and indicated a strong community interest in the integration of AI with blockchain technologies. Specifically, 72% of respondents expressed a belief that AI could significantly enhance the functionality and security of blockchain networks (Karpathy, 2025). This sentiment was particularly strong in the context of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, where 85% of respondents saw potential for…
