Paper: Abstract: While Transformers have revolutionized deep learning, their quadratic attention complexity hinders their ability to process infinitely long inputs. We propose Feedback Attention Memory (FAM), a novel Transformer architecture that leverages a feedback loop to enable the network to attend to its own latent representations. This design fosters the emergence of working memory within the Transformer, allowing it to process indefinitely long sequences. TransformerFAM requires no additional weights, enabling seamless integration with pre-trained models. Our experiments show that TransformerFAM significantly improves Transformer performance on long-context tasks across various model sizes (1B, 8B, and 24B). These results showcase the potential…

Ex-Google TechLead finds the perfect mouse featuring Logitech G502X Plus, Razer Basilisk V3 Pro, Razer Deathadder V3 Pro, MX Master 3S, Logitech G502 Hero, Logitech G705, and more. Join ex-Google/ex-Facebook engineers for my coding interview training: [edit] sorry, that isn’t a Razer Viper, but it is the Deathadder V3 Pro. I was researching both for the video – afaik, they’re almost identical, with the Deathadder being a bit taller in shape. In a recent appearance on Conversations with Tyler, famed political forecaster Nate Silver expressed skepticism about AIs replacing human forecasters in the near future. When asked how long it might take for AIs to reach superhuman forecasting abilities, Silver replied: “15 or 20 [years].”In light of this, we are excited to announce “FiveThirtyNine,” a superhuman AI forecasting bot. Our bot, built on GPT-4o, provides probabilities for any user-entered query, including “Will Trump win the 2024 presidential election?” and “Will China invade Taiwan by 2030?” Our bot performs better than experienced human forecasters and performs roughly the same as (and sometimes…
This follows the first selection of seven AI Factories in December 2024. Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Poland, and Slovenia will host the newly selected AI Factories, supported by a combined national and EU investment of around €485 million. The factories will offer privileged access to AI startups and small-and-medium sized enterprises (SMEs), fostering growth and more effective scaling up. AI Factories are a core pillar of the Commission’s strategy for Europe to become a leader in AI, bringing together 17 Member States and two associated EuroHPC participating states. The infrastructure and services provided by AI Factories are essential for unlocking…
GenAI is never going to disappear. The tools have their uses. But the economics do not and have not ever made sense, relative to the realities of the techonology. I have been writing about the dubious economics for a long time, since my August 2023 piece here on whether Generative AI would prove to be a dud. (My warnings about the technical limits, such as hallucinations and reasoning errors, go back to my 2001 book, The Algebraic Mind, and 1998 article in Cognitive Psychology). There are a bunch of reasons to think that the deflation of the bubble may have…
Rising wages and changing worker expectations require businesses to focus on more than just pay for talent acquisition. Trust, career growth and predictable scheduling are key to retention, while declining tips and higher base wages demand updated compensation models and workforce technology. In years past, a national restaurant chain opening a new location might expect to fill hourly staff positions within weeks. But today, applications trickle in slowly. So what’s the answer for fast-food chains, coffee shops and quick-service restaurants?New talent acquisition strategies that override traditional tipped wages to take into account higher starting pay, sign-on bonuses and flexible schedules. Thanks to a…
