Amazon is testing a new “Buy for Me” button that will let you purchase products from third-party websites without leaving the e-commerce giant’s mobile app. The feature is powered by agentic AI, allowing the company to purchase items on your behalf.Last month, Amazon rolled out a test that directs you to other brands’ websites for products it doesn’t sell. But now, instead of directing you to the website to fill out your payment details and shipping address, “Buy for Me” is supposed to do all the work for you. The feature runs on Amazon’s Nova AI system, which now includes…
Runway AI Inc. today announced that it has closed a $308 million funding round led by General Atlantic. The growth equity firm was joined by several other investors including Fidelity, Baillie Gifford, SoftBank Group Corp. and Nvidia Corp. The chipmaker also backed Runway’s previous $141 million funding round in 2023. Bloomberg reported that the artificial intelligence startup is now worth more than $3 billion. Runway’s latest raise is not unexpected. Word of the Series D investment first emerged last July, when The Information reported that Runway was in talks with General Atlantic about new funding. The investment comes a day…
arXiv:2504.01850v1 Announce Type: cross Abstract: Nowadays, developers increasingly rely on solutions powered by Large Language Models (LLM) to assist them with their coding tasks. This makes it crucial to align these tools with human values to prevent malicious misuse. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive framework for assessing the potential harmfulness of LLMs within the software engineering domain. We begin by developing a taxonomy of potentially harmful software engineering scenarios and subsequently, create a dataset of prompts based on this taxonomy. To systematically assess the responses, we design and validate an automatic evaluator that classifies the outputs of a…
[THEME MUSIC FADES] The passage I read at the top there is from Chapter 7 of the book, “The Ultimate Paperwork Shredder.” Paperwork plays a particularly important role in healthcare. It helps convey treatment information that supports patient care, and it’s also used to help demonstrate that providers are meeting regulatory responsibilities, among other things. But if we’re being honest, it’s taxing—for everyone—and it’s a big contributor to the burnout our clinicians are experiencing today. Carey, Zak, and I identified this specific pain point as one of the best early avenues to pursue as far as putting generative AI to…
Artificial intelligence has basically taken over and replace traditional web search engines. You’ve already seen it with AI overviews in Google Search, followed up with OpenAI going the way of SearchGPT. Even alternative search engines like DuckDuckGo are starting to incorporate AI into their platforms, and things aren’t slowing down. Well, now we can add another to the pile: Microsoft just released Copilot Search, which is sort of like an AI-infused Bing Search. It takes in data from sources all over the web, then uses Copilot’s AI powers to synthesize a summary for you. You may have seen something similar…
Stay up to date with everything that is happening in the wonderful world of AM via our LinkedIn community.A research team from MIT’s Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) has developed a new software tool that makes it easier to design and make cable-driven 3D printed objects. The tool, called Xstrings, can be used to produce a variety of products with embedded actuation, from robotic hands with gripping capabilities to interactive sculptures with animal-like movement.Cable-driven mechanisms are frequently used by engineers to create components that can move fluidly like a human or animal. This movement is generated by pulling…
Haitian sculptor Ti Pèlen, whose birth name is Jean Salomon Horace, died last month at the age of 66. His cause of death remains undisclosed. His family will preserve the remaining artworks in his possession, according to a spokesperson for Pioneer Works, which featured his work in a 2018 exhibition on Port-au-Prince artists. Pèlen’s carved stone sculptures—oversized heads with serene expressions—were a centerpiece of Pòtoprens: The Urban Artists of Port-au-Prince, a survey of contemporary Haitian artists. A New York Times review described the presence of the carvings as a “carnivalesque antidote to the classical sculpture courts of Western museums.” Related…

This expanded infrastructure is designed to assist clients in navigating regulatory changes while integrating AI within a secure and scalable cloud environment. The newly launched MZR in Montreal is a key component of IBM’s broader North American growth strategy, enabling organizations to implement AI-powered solutions while adhering to stringent data…
Video AI firm Runway has reportedly been valued at $3 billion after raising $308 million. The deal is set to be announced Thursday (April 3), Bloomberg News reported, citing sources familiar with the matter. The report noted that Runway set off a frenzy around artificial intelligence (AI) video generators in 2023 after it debuted a model that could produce — in Bloomberg’s words — “slightly choppy-looking” developed from prompts like “drone footage of a desert landscape.” Runway co-founder/CEO Cris Valenzuela told Bloomberg that the company plans to use the funding to boost its research into AI models and add to…
When you think of attacking or defending computer systems, you probably think of software viruses and the corresponding anti-virus software. But MIT’s 6.5950 class teaches secure hardware design — how to attack and defend CPUs from bad actors. Interested? The course is open source, so you can follow along as long as you don’t mind not getting a grade. Browsing some of the lecture slides shows that the material isn’t as stuffy as you might imagine. A slide about side channel attacks, for example, features an article called “And Bomb the Anchovies,” which says that Washington DC pizza places know…
