OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman. Image: Creative Commons OpenAI has rolled out two new AI models, o3 and o4‑mini, that can literally “think with images,” marking a big step forward in how machines understand pictures. These models, announced in an OpenAI press release, can reason about images the same way they do about text — cropping, zooming, and rotating photos as part of their internal thought process. At the heart of this update is the ability to blend visual and verbal reasoning. “OpenAI o3 and o4‑mini represent a significant breakthrough in visual perception by reasoning with images in their chain of…

arXiv:2504.12682v1 Announce Type: new Abstract: Most recent web agent research has focused on navigation and transaction tasks, with little emphasis on extracting structured data at scale. We present WebLists, a benchmark of 200 data-extraction tasks across four common business and enterprise use-cases. Each task requires an agent to navigate to a webpage, configure it appropriately, and extract complete datasets with well-defined schemas. We show that both LLMs with search capabilities and SOTA web agents struggle with these tasks, with a recall of 3% and 31%, respectively, despite higher performance on question-answering tasks. To address this challenge, we propose BardeenAgent, a…

Image: hoangpts/Envato Elements The trajectory of enterprise technology has often been marked by fragmentation. In the past, the rapid expansion of data platforms led to a fragmented ecosystem as vendors rushed to support various data types and tools. For instance, organizations often manage structured data with relational databases like MySQL or Oracle, semi-structured data with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, and unstructured data with data lakes implemented with Hadoop or Amazon S3. Big data processing frameworks like Apache Spark were then layered on top to manage large-scale data analytics. The result? Complex, costly systems that were difficult to maintain and…

Some ChatGPT users have noticed a strange phenomenon recently: Occasionally, the chatbot refers to them by name as it reasons through problems. That wasn’t the default behavior previously, and several users claim ChatGPT is mentioning their names despite never having been told what to call them. Reviews are mixed. One user, software developer and AI enthusiast Simon Willison, called the feature “creepy and unnecessary.” Another developer, Nick Dobos, said he “hated it.” A cursory search of X turns up scores of users confused by — and wary of — ChatGPT’s first-name basis behavior. “It’s like a teacher keeps calling my…
