Every now and then, a Silicon Valley startup launches with such an “absurdly” described mission that it’s difficult to discern if the startup is for real or just satire. Such is the case with Mechanize, a startup whose founder – and the non-profit AI research organization he founded called Epoch – is being skewered on X after he announced it.  Complaints encompass both the startup’s mission, and the implication that it sullies the reputation of his well-respected research institute. (A director at the research institute even posted on X, “Yay just what I wanted for my bday: a comms crisis.”)…

#saycan #robots #ai This is an interview with the authors Brian Ichter, Karol Hausman, and Fei Xia. Original Paper Review Video: Large Language Models are excellent at generating plausible plans in response to real-world problems, but without interacting with the environment, they have no abilities to estimate which of these plans are feasible or appropriate. SayCan combines the semantic capabilities of language models with a bank of low-level skills, which are available to the agent as individual policies to execute. SayCan automatically finds the best policy to execute by considering a trade-off between the policy’s ability to progress towards the…

Lvmin Zhang at GitHub, in collaboration with Maneesh Agrawala at Stanford University, has introduced FramePack this week. FramePack offers a practical implementation of video diffusion using fixed-length temporal context for more efficient processing, enabling longer and higher-quality videos. A 13-billion parameter model built using the FramePack architecture can generate a 60-second clip with just 6GB of video memory.FramePack is a neural network architecture that uses multi-stage optimization techniques to enable local AI video generation. At the time of writing, the FramePack GUI is said to run a custom Hunyuan-based model under the hood, though the research paper mentions that existing…
