Parallel thinking has emerged as a novel approach for enhancing the reasoning capabilities of large language models (LLMs) by exploring multiple reasoning paths concurrently. However, activating such capabilities through training remains challenging, as existing methods predominantly rely on supervised fine-tuning (SFT) over synthetic data, which encourages teacher-forced imitation rather than exploration and generalization. Different from them, we propose \textbf{Parallel-R1}, the first reinforcement learning (RL) framework that enables parallel thinking behaviors for complex real-world reasoning tasks. Our framework employs a progressive curriculum that explicitly addresses the cold-start problem in training parallel thinking with RL. We first use SFT on prompt-generated trajectories…
AI agents are transforming enterprise applications across industries, from customer service to complex decision workflows. As organizations scale these deployments, they face a fundamental question: how can you improve trust in an AI application? The challenge is transparency. AI agents can make decisions on behalf of users, invoke tools dynamically, and follow reasoning paths that create an accountability gap. Having visibility into the factors influencing user interactions and outcome can help you build transparent and reliable agents.Too often, observability becomes an afterthought. This approach fails with AI agents. Observability must be fundamental from day one because these systems learn, adapt,…

Cisco updated its Nvidia-based AI infrastructure offering with support for workload data fabrics.Cisco Secure AI Factory with Nvidia now offers integration with AI operating system (OS) vendor Vast Data, specifically with Cisco’s AI points of delivery (PODs).Cisco AI PODs are included with Vast InsightEngine, Vast’s AI platform and backbone for its Vast Data AI OS, where they can leverage the Nvidia AI Data Platform reference design to grab raw data and accelerate retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines.Announced in March of this year at the Nvidia GTC conference, the Cisco AI Factory sees the PODs combine the performance of Cisco Unified Computing…
Anthropic’s recommended mitigation for users is to “monitor Claude while using the feature and stop it if you see it using or accessing data unexpectedly,” although this places the burden of security on the user. Independent AI researcher Simon Willison, reviewing the feature today on his blog, noted that Anthropic’s advice to “monitor Claude while using the feature” amounts to “unfairly outsourcing the problem to Anthropic’s users.” Anthropic’s mitigations Anthropic is not completely ignoring the problem, however, and it has implemented several security measures for the file-creation feature. The company has implemented a classifier that attempts to detect prompt injections…

There’s been great interest in what Mira Murati’s Thinking Machines Lab is building with its $2 billion in seed funding and the all-star team of former OpenAI researchers who have joined the lab. In a blog post published on Wednesday, Murati’s research lab gave the world its first look into one of its projects: creating AI models with reproducible responses. The research blog post, titled “Defeating Nondeterminism in LLM Inference,” tries to unpack the root cause of what introduces randomness in AI model responses. For example, ask ChatGPT the same question a few times over, and you’re likely to get…
(Iryna Pohrebna/Shutterstock) Artificial Intelligence is steadily transforming healthcare. Chatbots now help triage symptoms, and algorithms are getting better at spotting anomalies in scans. Each new system nudges the boundaries of what machines can do. But for all that progress, one tool has barely changed in over 200 years: the stethoscope. It’s still the first thing a doctor reaches for to listen to a patient’s heart and lungs. Now, with AI in the mix, the stethoscope is getting a lot smarter. At least, that’s what’s being claimed by researchers at Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, who are…

Recent advances in large multimodal models have leveraged image-based tools with reinforcement learning to tackle visual problems. However, existing open-source approaches often exhibit monotonous reasoning patterns and allow only a limited number of interaction turns, making them inadequate for difficult tasks that require trial-and-error exploration. In this work, we address this limitation by scaling up tool-based interactions and introduce Mini-o3, a system that executes deep, multi-turn reasoning — spanning tens of steps — and achieves state-of-the-art performance on challenging visual search tasks. Our recipe for reproducing OpenAI o3-style behaviors comprises three key components. First, we construct the Visual Probe Dataset,…
