Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) is a fundamental approach for building advanced generative AI applications that connect large language models (LLMs) to enterprise knowledge. However, crafting a reliable RAG pipeline is rarely a one-shot process. Teams often need to test dozens of configurations (varying chunking strategies, embedding models, retrieval techniques, and prompt designs) before arriving at a solution that works for their use case. Furthermore, management of high-performing RAG pipeline involves complex deployment, with teams often using manual RAG pipeline management, leading to inconsistent results, time-consuming troubleshooting, and difficulty in reproducing successful configurations. Teams struggle with scattered documentation of parameter choices,…
After a hurricane passes, scientists routinely analyze the assorted computer models used to predict its path and power and crown a victor. This year, a surprising new contender has emerged — a forecast model generated by artificial intelligence. How is it faring? Well, the single best-performing model for last month’s Hurricane Erin was Google DeepMind, a relative AI newcomer in the storm prediction field.Yes, it’s a small sample size. But although the technology can be over-hyped in some places, it already holds a great deal of promise in the notoriously fickle field of weather forecasting. Some experts say their weather and…
“OpenAI’s decision to recast its for-profit arm as a public benefit corporation while keeping control in the hands of its nonprofit parent is without precedent at this scale,” said Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst and CEO at Greyhound Research. “It is a structure that fuses two competing logics: the relentless need to raise capital for models that cost billions to train, and the equally strong pressure from regulators, investors, and the public to demonstrate accountability.” The proposed structure enables OpenAI to attract traditional investors who expect potential returns, while the nonprofit parent can ensure safety considerations aren’t sacrificed for profit.…

Anthropic’s recent $1.5 billion settlement could open the floodgates for more publishers to sue AI companies over how they use copyrighted content. Just this week, the Britannica Group, the parent of Encyclopedia Britannica and the Merriam-Webster dictionary, sued Perplexity. Filed on Wednesday in a New York federal court, the complaint accuses the buzzy AI startup of infringing Britannica’s copyright and trademark rights and claims its answer engine is cutting into the publisher’s revenue. Perplexity, founded in 2022, dubs itself as an “AI-powered Swiss Army knife for information discovery and curiosity.” The company recently made headlines in August when it made…
Last month, Kim Keon-hee, wife of South Korea’s impeached and jailed former president Yoon Suk-yeol, was arrested on charges of bribery, stock manipulation, and election interference. It is one of three probes targeting Yoon, the conservative former president ousted from office in April after attempting to impose martial law last December. Forty ancient tombs were unearthed along the Mosul Dam reservoir in northern Iraq due to a drought that lowered water levels in the country’s largest reservoir, reported CBS News. A team of archaeologists had previously surveyed the area in 2023—working when water levels fell—but could only identify parts of a few tombs. The forty that have now been identified are thought to be more than 2,300 years old from the Hellenistic or Hellenistic-Seleucid period. Ruins found in the same area, dating back thousands of years, have also revealed themselves in recent years due to five-consecutive years of drought. Related Articles…
