Published on September 16, 2025 by Joseph K Biru Cao and Yiqing Wang, two graduates from MIT, recently developed a new desktop 3D printer called FOODres.AI.The system combines artificial intelligence, object recognition, and additive manufacturing to convert household food waste such as fruit peels, coffee grounds, and leftover rice into coasters, containers, and even small decorative items. Unlike most at-home 3D printers that rely on plastics or resins, FOODres.AI showcases how unconventional organic materials can be adapted for 3D printing by consumers at home. The printer itself utilizes a custom three-axis extrusion system paired with a heating and mixing module that…
WorkFusion, a startup that has developed AI agents for financial crime compliance, has raised $45 million in funding, the company told Crunchbase News exclusively. Founded in 2010 out of MIT Labs, New York-based WorkFusion pivoted a few years ago from general automation and intelligent document processing to focus on its AI agents for financial crime compliance, according to CEO Adam Famularo. Originally, WorkFusion “was trying to automate pretty much anything for anybody,” he said. “It would use any one of its baseline technologies to do that work. But the problem was that you can’t scale something like that,” Famularo recalls.…

How well-supported are the claims made by AI tools?Oscar Wong/Getty Images Generative AI tools, and the deep research agents and search engines powered by them, frequently make unsupported and biased claims that aren’t backed up by the sources they cite. That’s according to an analysis which found that about one-third of answers provided by the AI tools aren’t backed up by reliable sources. For OpenAI’s GPT 4.5, the figure was even higher, at 47 per cent. Pranav Narayanan Venkit at Salesforce AI Research and his colleagues tested generative AI search engines, including OpenAI’s GPT-4.5 and 5, You.com, Perplexity and Microsoft’s…

Stanford Law School has launched a new research project, the ‘Legal Innovation Through Frontier Technology Lab’, or Liftlab, to explore how AI can reshape legal services for the better. The project led by Professor Julian Nyarko and Executive Director Megan Ma (pictured), stressed that the goal was not just to make legal services ‘faster and cheaper, but better and more widely accessible’. Although, one could say that to make legal services more accessible will mean making them more affordable, and in turn faster and easier to access. Either way, it’s a welcome move and builds on the work that Stanford’s…
