Big quote: Nvidia has been raking in record-breaking revenue from its AI data center business. But this time it was the gaming division that unexpectedly stole some of the spotlight. For Q1 FY26, Nvidia’s gaming revenue surged to a record $3.8 billion, up 42% year-over-year and 48% quarter-over-quarter. That’s the fastest growth rate the gaming GPU segment has seen in years, and even exceeding Wall Street’s expectations by over 30%. As for what’s behind the surge, analysts says it’s all got to do with Nvidia’s “Blackwell ramp.” The new GPUs may be rolling out faster than any generation before, which…
Mistral AI, a Paris-based startup founded by former Meta META researchers Guillaume Lample and Timothée Lacroix, is rapidly emerging as a key player in the open-source AI space, and it’s doing so with Meta‘s top talent. The tech giant is contending with a major loss of talent within its AI division as the architects behind its flagship Llama models exit the company. According to Business Insider, only three of the 14 researchers credited on the 2023 Llama paper remain employed at Meta.Five of the Llama paper’s co-authors have joined Mistral in the past 18 months, intensifying scrutiny around Meta’s ability to…
Anthropic released the Claude 4 family last week, just a few months after making Claude 3.7 available to users.Claude 4 is so powerful that Anthropic had to increase security for the model. Tests showed that Claude 4 would otherwise make it easier for people with nefarious intentions to obtain help creating bioweapons or new viruses. Also, safety tests proved that Claude 4 will attempt to do whatever it takes to save itself from deletion, including blackmailing staff tasked with the job. The most controversial Claude 4 feature is the AI’s intention to notify authorities and the press if it thinks…
Google DeepMind announced SignGemma, its most capable model yet for translating sign language into spoken text. This open model will join the Gemma model family later this year, a step towards inclusive artificial intelligence. SignGemma is designed to translate various sign languages into spoken language text. While the model has been trained to be massively multilingual, it has been primarily tested and optimised for American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Earlier, DeepMind launched the Gemma 3n model, which empowers developers to generate intelligent text from audio, images, video, and written input. This enables the creation of live and interactive applications…
What does it take to build the future of artificial intelligence? Imagine a sprawling 1,200-acre facility in Abilene, Texas, humming with the power of 400,000 GPUs, each working tirelessly to train the next generation of AI models. This is Stargate, OpenAI’s audacious $500 billion project, a megafactory designed to meet the insatiable computational demands of artificial general intelligence (AGI). Backed by tech giants like Oracle and SoftBank, Stargate is more than just a data center—it’s a bold statement in the global race to dominate AI innovation. But as the world marvels at its scale and ambition, questions loom: Can such…
Graphic: Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) U.S. leads in model development, China narrows performance gap, and global optimism rises despite persistent challenges in reasoning and trust STANFORD, Calif., April 07, 2025–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today, the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI (HAI) released its 2025 AI Index report which provides a comprehensive look at the global state of artificial intelligence. Will AI automate human jobs, and — if so — which jobs and when? That’s the trio of questions a new research study from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), out this morning, tries to answer. There’s been many attempts to extrapolate out and project how the AI technologies of today, like large language models, might impact people’s’ livelihoods — and whole economies — in the future. Goldman Sachs estimates that AI could automate 25% of the entire labor market in the next few years. According to McKinsey, nearly half of all work will be AI-driven by 2055.…
