While Apple works to boost Apple Intelligence, the company is reportedly teaming up with Anthropic to integrate Claude with Xcode, Apple’s integrated development environment. However, Xcode with Claude integration could just be an internal tool for Apple.
Mark Gurman at Bloomberg exclusively reports on the unannounced partnership between Apple and Anthropic. According to Gurman, Apple hasn’t decided if the version of Xcode that integrates with Claude will be released outside of Apple.
Apple will roll out the software internally and hasn’t yet decided whether to launch it publicly, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the initiative hasn’t been announced.
The work shows how Apple is using AI to improve its internal workflow, aiming to speed up and modernize product development. The approach is similar to one used by companies such as Windsurf and Cursor maker Anysphere, which offer advanced AI coding assistants popular with software developers.
Still, the development bodes well for Apple’s ability to deliver on its promises. Leaning on Anthropic, which is largely backed by Amazon’s $8 billion investment, shows that Apple is open to adopting industry AI tools and not rolling everything from scratch internally
Last summer, Apple previewed a similar feature in Xcode that would be powered by Apple Intelligence, but the Swift Assist feature has yet to be released.
While OpenAI has had the most commercial success with ChatGPT, Anthropic has leaned into enterprise solutions with Claude AI technology. Earlier this year, Anthropic unveiled Claude Code, a command line tool for agentic coding.
If Apple does announce a version of Xcode with special Claude integration for developers, the news could come next month as Apple holds its Worldwide Developer Conference during the week of June 9.
