In a relatively rare type of legal tech carve out deal, Aderant has bought the legal tech division of HerculesAI (formerly Zero).
In a statement to Artificial Lawyer, they said: ‘Employees associated with legal solutions will be joining the Aderant team. Alex Babin [CEO] is staying with HerculesAI. The HerculesAI executive team is staying with the business. Only employees specifically associated with their legal technology business are coming to Aderant with this acquisition.
‘Aderant is [therefore] acquiring all of the legal technology assets of HerculesAI, including the people that develop and support them. The products included are Apollo, Athena, and Verify. Those are the products that support the legal vertical. The company HerculesAI will continue to exist and further their other product lines that address the needs of other verticals outside of legal. This is not a full acquisition but a carve-out of their legal business.’
As to HerculesAI, it ‘converts rules-heavy, document-bound workflows into real-time, auditable data flows for the world’s most regulated enterprises. Its AI agents capture data from any source, map it to company or industry standards, and validate every field against business rules—eliminating manual entry, cutting administration time by up to 70 percent’.
It also works in other market segments such as finance and insurance.
