Litigation Day Preview – Nov 6 – Artificial Lawyer

Legal Innovators UK, the landmark legal tech conference in London, is fast approaching. Here’s a peek into what we’ll be exploring on Litigation Day – November 6. It’s the first time we have held a special day dedicated to litigation, but given how specialised this field is, it will provide lawyers and legal innovation experts the space and time to really explore what matters most.

The overarching theme this year is: where have we got to with genAI and where are we heading next in terms of how the litigation world is deploying this transformative technology?

Since November 2022 the field of legal tech has changed enormously and many businesses have brought in multiple new AI products, or products from companies that have updated their offering to wield genAI skills as well, from eDiscovery, to legal research, to litigation analysis tools, and more.

But, what impact has this had on litigation work?

How has it changed how courts and other dispute resolution settings work?

What benefits have litigators gained?

What challenges have these teams faced?

This will naturally mean hearing from experts in the field, those at law firms and at The Bar working at the cutting edge of implementation, as well as those developing these tools. It’s about an open appraisal of the realities of AI-driven change. We should not expect absolute transformation – not yet – but at the same time there genuinely are the first signs of a significant evolution in the way lawyers work, and all because of genAI.

Of course, this change process is really only just beginning, and there is a long, positive road ahead, especially for those focused on legal innovation. So, here are some of the key sessions to look out for:

The AI-Driven Disputes Practice: Litigation, Arbitration, and Beyond: Generative AI is beginning to reshape every stage of the litigation and dispute resolution lifecycle, from streamlining eDiscovery, accelerating legal research and even participating in arbitration processes.

AI in Litigation: What Works in Theory vs What Holds Up in Court: This talk will give a court lawyer and prosecutor’s perspective on how AI can be used with tremendous impact, but also how it can fall short in areas of judgment and fairness; how AI deepfakes have introduced challenges for evidence authentication; and, perhaps most importantly, how public trust in the justice system might be eroded if AI isn’t implemented responsibly.

The New Era of eDiscovery: Smarter, Faster and AI-Driven: New Generative AI models are transforming the landscape of eDiscovery, allowing legal teams to process documents at an unprecedented speed and scale with expanded context windows, smarter natural language capabilities, and increasingly sophisticated tools.

Predicting The Future: The Rise of Litigation Forecasting: A growing number of companies are trying to ‘predict the future’ with case outcome systems, some using AI. Moreover, litigation finance companies are increasingly interested in this area.

And much, much more, including our new startup pitch competition.

Naturally, we will have plenty more to tell you over the next few weeks, with news about speakers, more sponsors, and details about the two other great days of the conference: Law Firm Day – 4th November, and Inhouse Day – 5th November.

We’re excited already!

If you’d like to find out more about the three-day event at the Minster Building in the City of London, please see here.

And if you’d like to make sure you have a ticket for the new and larger venue for this year’s landmark event, then please see here.

Richard Tromans, Founder, Artificial Lawyer and Conference Chair.

P.S. Also, later in November we will be holding Legal Innovators New York right in the heart of Manhattan on 6th Avenue in the Time-Life Building! More information here for the two-day conference on November 19 and 20. See you in London and/or New York!
