ai humanizer tool

There are literally dozens of AI humanizer tools on the internet, all promising the same thing: the ability to make AI writing more human. But as many users will attest, results can be so inconsistent that you could end up testing several apps for hours until you find one that works for your project.

To help you skip the endless trial and error, we conducted our own research and narrowed it down to the 6 best humanizer apps on the internet. We’ll show you how we chose them, what makes them good, and how to maximize their features for the best results.

What are AI Humanizers and How Do They Work?

Humanizers are web apps that offer AI that humanizes text. By analyzing human-generated content and mimicking our writing patterns and cadence, these apps can transform AI-generated content into sounding like it was written by a person. Think of them like an AI to human rewriter.

Typically, here are the ways they attempt to make AI text more human:

Eliminates AI “tells”: Tells are clichés or overused words and phrases that are constantly found in AI-generated writing. “In conclusion”, “furthermore”, and “delve into” are all examples of tells, and AI humanizers specifically avoid using them.Diversifies sentences: To avoid sounding monotonous or “robotic”, humanizers try to write diverse paragraphs. They combine long, complex sentences and short, punchy statements.Applies tone: Another way humanizers try to mimic human-generated writing and sound less robotic is by using the active voice more than the passive voice. Instead of saying “The webmaster was contacted by our marketing department”, a humanizer would (usually) say: “Our marketing department contacted the webmaster.”

However, mimicry can only go so far, and humanizers still produce certain patterns that betray their usage. Even if humans can’t always tell, there are detection apps that can still find those clues using their own analysis tools. We’ll go over detection apps shortly in the following section.

We do not endorse the use of humanizers for academic or professional dishonesty and misrepresentation. Humanizers are amazing tools that can efficiently produce readable content, as well as suggest different ways to convey your idea.

How We Chose Our Top 6 Free AI Humanizer Tools

To compare the dozens of AI humanizers we tested for this article, we came up with a simple checklist that focused on the features that affect users the most. Here’s a brief summary of our criteria:

AI detection: AI detection tools made up the first and foremost gauntlet for the humanizer apps. After we used an app to humanize AI-generated text, we fed its finished product to several well-regarded AI detectors on the internet, including ZeroGPT, QuillBot, Copyleaks, Winston AI, and more. The results were our primary criterion.Writing characteristics: As a human writer, I made sure that the AI output of our top 6 had proper grammar, removed common AI “tells”, utilized diverse sentence structures and tempo, and had a clear “non-generic” tone of voice.Usage limitations: We chose apps that humanize AI text for free. Some offered a completely free plan, while others at least offered a free trial generous enough to showcase their ability to produce high-quality output. Some trials are more generous than others—but either way, you’ll know if the app in question is worth paying for (if you need to at all).Usability: Though not as heavily as the other factors, we also considered each humanizer app’s usability. We avoided those with excessive pop-ups, slow output rates, and unoptimized interfaces.

While AI humanizers are very good at sounding human, be sure to manage your expectations in terms of actual writing quality. You will probably still want to edit the final product to improve flow, deepen vocabulary, and integrate brand voice.

6 Best Free AI Humanizer Tools

In this section, we’ll cover 6 free AI text humanizer apps that we think stand out from the dozens we tested during our research. For each app, we provide a brief summary of its features, pros, cons, the results of its output, and the limitations of its free plan.

This guide covers web applications, which are standalone tools. The list doesn’t cover humanizer plugins, which are usually included in another application (e.g. ChatGPT plugins).

1. Clever AI Humanizer

Clever AI Harmonizer website homepage

Clever AI Humanizer is a popular free text humanizer with many features going for it. First, it offers an extremely generous free “trial” of 120,000 words per month and 4,000 words per check–you probably won’t hit the limit unless you’re checking writing pieces in bulk. It doesn’t even require an account to use. Second, it has a well-designed and non-distracting interface that doesn’t bombard you with pop-ups every few minutes.

Most importantly, Clever AI Humanizer has some of the best “human” scores when tested with AI detection tools (up to 99% and 100%). All the tools we used stated that they were “confident” that the content was written by a human, specifically highlighting its straightforward tone, simple sentence structure, and human-centric writing.

In terms of the writing quality itself, Clever AI Humanizer excels at preserving the logic from the original text and simplifying it. No ideas get lost in “translation.” However, note that you may want to touch up the final product to add nuance and technical flair. The text might be too simple for topics that require complexity to properly convey their concepts.

Pros:

Very high “human” scores in AI detection tools, even on the first try—your content is unlikely to get flaggedMost generous free plan on this listGood writing logic; the logic of the original context carried over, but simplifiedWriting sounds empathic and centered on human experience instead of hard factsClean user interface with no annoying pop-ups or distracting UI elementsSign-up not required–it’s a truly free essay humanizer

Cons:

Because the text is so simplified, it may require tonal editing for more professional settingsThere are minor grammar errors (use tools like Grammarly, along with manual checks, to clean up the draft)Odd choices of phrasing here and there

Free Plan Limitations:

120,000 words per month4,000 words per request

2. Rephrasy

Rephrasy AI Harmonizer web app

Rephrasy is a beautiful AI humanizer tool with great human scores (mostly) and useful features, as well as a generous but limited free trial. It’s 3 credits if you sign up for an account with no credit card, and 100 credits if you add your card. Each credit is worth 2,000 words, which can get you a lot of mileage; however, your credits don’t reset when they run out.

Rephrasy gets great human scores on many of the detection tools we used (some scores reaching up to 100% human), but it does get flagged by others. So make sure to check your content with detectors used or suggested by your organization. That said, it has a “Humanize More” feature, as well as limited writing style options, which can improve your content’s scores even more.

The app’s biggest drawback is the writing quality of the final product. There are minor grammatical errors (such as missing articles like “a” and “the”, run-on sentences, etc.), and the phrasing could be a lot smoother if better word choices were used. Depending on the quality expected of your content, you will probably have to do quite a bit of editing on Rephrasy’s output. Overall, it’s very good at passing detection tools, but the writing module could use some work.

Pros:

Mostly very good human scores when analyzed with AI detectorsGenerous free planHas a built-in detector with lots of informationBeautiful and functional interface

Cons:

Requires sign-up to use the free planGets flagged for AI content in some detectorsQuality-wise, the final product needs a lot of editing to improve word choice and flow

Free Plan Limits:

3 credits without a credit card registration, 100 credits with a credit card registration2,000 words per credit

3. CleverSpinner

CleverSpinner AI Harmonizer web app

CleverSpinner is an older and well-respected AI humanizer website, which gives you a massive burst of mileage if you’re willing to sign up with your payment details. It has a 3-day free trial that lets you use its features as much as you want with zero feature or word limitations (very useful if you have a massive one-time project).

Here’s why that’s highly advantageous. CleverSpinner is already decent at passing detection tests–while some applications flag it (even partially), increasing the humanizer slider and redoing requests can highly improve its scores. With the unlimited trial, you can request the app to humanize your content over and over until you’re satisfied with the result.

Aside from being resistant to detection, CleverSpinner’s general writing style is better than many of its competitors. It still produces some grammatical errors, but it excels at “sounding” human and using a conversational tone that sounds a lot more natural compared to other results we’ve reviewed. You won’t have to spend too much time editing its output.

However, if you’re looking for a completely free app you can use long-term, you’ll have to cross this one off the list. Beyond the 3-day trial, you can no longer use CleverSpinner’s features for free.

Pros:

The 3-day free trial provides unlimited accessGood human scores across several different toolsDespite some grammatical errors, the output sounds like everyday human conversation

Cons:

Requires signing up with payment details to access the free trialFor best results, the maximum Humanize setting is required (which has more grammatical errors)

Free Plan Limitations:

4. WriteHuman

WriteHuman AI Harmonizer web app

WriteHuman AI is one of the newer tools on this list, but it also produces one of the best final products in terms of writing quality and detection. While it does get flagged by some detection apps, WriteHuman AI scores as high as 99% to 100% human on others–so check which tools your organization uses.

Writing quality is the app’s biggest strength. Compared to most of the entries on this list, WriteHuman AI uses more complex words and phrases, making it suitable for academic and professional settings. Word choices aren’t complex just for the sake of it, but are actually effective. However, note that the output isn’t completely free of errors; you’ll still need to edit the final product before submitting it (but not as heavily as with others).

WriteHuman AI’s biggest drawback is its free plan limit. You only get 3 requests per month, and each request can only humanize 200 words–that’s a grand total of 600 words per month, compared to other apps that give you allowances in the thousands. However, you can retry requests on the same content for free, in case the current output fails to pass detection.

Pros:

Has a built-in AI detectorUses more professional (and mostly effective) word choices compared to other humanizer appsFewer grammatical mistakes than other apps, so less editing is required in general

Cons:

Very limited free plan, but retrying requests is freeSome apps still flag its content as AI-generated

Free Plan Limitations:

3 free requests per month200 words per request

5. StealthWriter

StealthWriter AI Harmonizer web app

SteathWriter AI is another well-known ChatGPT humaniser with a well-rounded set of traits and features, as well as some areas that could use improvement. Its free plan is decent, offering 5,000 words per day–which is far more generous than many other apps. However, it has a 300-word cap per request, which can be very limiting and may require additional editing work depending on your project.

What we liked about StealthWriter AI was its plethora of writing options, which can make your AI content creation system more productive. For example, you can ask it to produce multiple drafts at a time, change its writing style, freeze certain words or phrases (so they remain unchanged in the remix), and a lot more. It also provides its own detection preview.

Speaking of detection, a major setback for StealthWriter AI is its inconsistent results. Some tools gave it a very high “human” score, while others flagged its content as AI-generated. However, it has a Humanize More button (which has its own settings you can modify) that we found effective for improving the content’s human score.

Overall, it’s less polished than other humanizer apps, but its features can improve its results. Just make sure to edit the content after production to improve its scores even more.

Pros:

Relatively generous free usage limitGood results for some detector tools, and can be improved with the “Humanize More” featureLots of modification options are immediately availableBuilt-in AI detector

Cons:

Requires sign-up to access the toolPartial content flagging for AI (you’ll need to remix the content further or edit it yourself)Final product has a lot of “fluff” (unnecessary words)Tone could be improved

Free Plan Limitations:

5,000 words per day300 words per request

6. Digital Magic Wand

Digital Magic Wand AI Harmonizer web app

Digital Magic Wand is one of the more unique entries on this list due to its strengths and weaknesses. Before anything else, this app’s major drawback is that its content gets flagged more often as AI compared to its competitors, so you definitely need to check your organization’s tools and edit the final product before submission.

However, where Digital Magic Wand shines is in its writing modifiers. It has several writing styles you can choose from on the free plan, which include Journalistic, Messy, Academic, Informal, and several others–and they actually work! Each voice sounds distinct from the others. It also has a “humanizer slider” that allows you to tweak its output further. Between these modifiers, you can completely transform your drafts, giving you access to a much bigger variety of outputs for writing inspiration.

Digital Magic Wand’s free plan is also pretty decent; you get 4 credits for free when you sign up, which can be used for 10,000 characters per credit (around 1,600 words). Overall, this app will require much editing after humanizing AI writing, but you get access to a variety of writing styles that can elevate your final output.

Pros:

Decent free planMultiple writing styles that actually transform the tone of the outputPowerful humanizer slider

Cons:

Gets flagged by a lot of detection toolsSign-up required

Free Plan Limitations:

4 credits upon registration10,000 characters per credit

Before You Go: Simple Tips to Maximize Humanizer Apps

Modern humanizers have gotten even better at making AI writing more human, but you can get way more mileage with a little more effort. First, try running your AI content through multiple harmonizer apps, instead of just one. This can produce a much more unique and passable output, as several tools attempt to remove as many “tells” from the content as possible.

Second, check for plagiarism. All AI use existing content to train their models. So there’s a non-zero percent chance it may plagiarize content by mistake, which can severely jeopardize your academic or professional career.

Finally, polish your output. Use Grammarly to efficiently hunt down grammatical mistakes, then review the content manually to ensure that your logic, brand voice, and topic depth weren’t “lost in translation.”
