Quantum computing is moving from a theoretical concept to a real-world breakthrough known as “quantum advantage.” This is the moment when quantum computers can outperform even the best classical computers on real tasks. As a result, Dr. Alessandro Curioni, who is the head of IBM Research in Europe and Africa, warned businesses that ignoring this transformation is a big risk, according to Yahoo Finance. Indeed, Quantum advantage doesn’t come with slow and predictable progress like older computing technologies. Instead, the gains can be sudden and dramatic.

For instance, a company might not see any benefits one day, only to have quantum algorithms provide major breakthroughs that competitors are already using the next. To avoid falling behind, Curioni suggests that companies begin experimenting with quantum technology. Interestingly, IBM supports this with open-access platforms and collaborative projects in healthcare, finance, and materials science. However, to truly prepare, Curioni recommends businesses start learning about quantum computing, partner with others in their industry, and make smart investments in areas where quantum can make a difference.
He stressed that the benefits of quantum computing will grow exponentially once the technology crosses a key threshold, and waiting too long could leave companies unable to catch up. It is worth noting that Quantum technology doesn’t just make computers faster, but it also changes how information is processed and represented. This could impact everything from scientific research to business strategy.
