Zetrix AI Bhd, formerly known as MY EG Services Bhd, has launched NurAI, the world’s first Shariah-aligned large language model
According to The Edge, the AI model was developed using China’s open-source DeepSeek model, with technical assistance from the Chinese company.
The NurAI chatbot is designed to provide guidance in Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesia, Arabic, and English on topics ranging from dining to legal advice, based on shariah and Islamic values.
In the coming months, Zetrix AI plans to roll out AI-powered avatars of Islamic scholars to offer advice on lifestyle, health, and financial services.
Trained on shariah sources, the comprehensive system of Islamic laws that governs aspects of daily life from meal preparation to banking, NurAI aims to deliver culturally relevant and faith-compliant assistance to its users.

Zetrix AI estimates the chatbot’s addressable market at two billion people.
The company plans to target financial institutions and government agencies in the next phase of its growth strategy.
Currently available on Apple’s App Store, Google Play Store, and browsers, Zetrix AI co-founder and AI development head Datuk Fadzli Shah said the initial rollout will cover Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei, a combined market of 340 million people, the majority of whom follow the Shafi’i school of thought, reported the Sundaily.
Future updates will incorporate guidance from other madhhab.
The NurAI model was developed under the ASEAN–China AI Lab initiative, a collaboration between Zetrix AI and China’s Beitou IT Innovation, to establish a government-to-government lab that brings together leading AI companies from China and ASEAN.
The initiative aims to create localised AI products and enhance cross-border applications, reported the New Straits Times in April.
Fadzli said about 10 DeepSeek researchers assisted in optimising the system to reduce memory usage, enabling NurAI to scale while maintaining speed and resource efficiency.
