GT Podcast with Mulan: China opposes Japan’s space weaponization; Multiple govt agencies outline economic priorities for H2

In today’s podcast:

China firmly opposes Japan’s attempt to find an excuse to justify its own military buildup by hyping up so-called threats from other countries, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday, after Japan’s Defense Ministry on Monday released its first guidelines allegedly aimed at enhancing its defense in outer space, using so-called killer satellites developed by China and Russia as an excuse.

Multiple Chinese government agencies have held a succession of intensive meetings, where they outlined their priorities for economic work for the second half, to ensure that the world’s second-largest economy can achieve its annual GDP target of around 5 percent, enabling it to drive global economic growth.

The Global Times recently conducted an exclusive interview with CEO of Chinese AI company Zhipu AI, Zhang Peng, to discuss the latest features and breakthroughs of GLM-4.5, the rationale behind its full open-source strategy, and its impact on the development of Chinese large-scale models.

Curiosity about China is drawing a growing number of international travelers to see the country for themselves. The Global Times talked to Martin Sonneborn, a German member of the European Parliament who recently shared his experience of taking the high-speed trains in China on social media, which became a hit.

“My story with ice hockey can be heard by more Chinese kids, who will find their own roads with their favorite sports,” Wang Haoxi, the 2007-born Beijing native, told the Global Times, explaining that “this is the reason why I am extremely happy despite being very tired.” He and his Beijing teammates secured China’s national under-18 ice hockey championship title recently.
