Will You Be Using Chrome In 2030? Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas Questions Google’s Relevance As Comet Gains Popularity

Perplexity AI CEO Aravind Srinivas has sparked debate over the future of Google Chrome, as the company’s new AI-powered Comet browser continues to draw increasing attention. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Srinivas questioned, “Will you be using Chrome in 2030?”, prompting divided reactions. Some users claimed they have already made the switch to Comet and haven’t looked back, while others believe Google may still lead by launching its own AI-driven browser in the near future.

Comet, which was introduced earlier this month, is currently available via invite-only access. Despite its limited rollout, it is rapidly growing in popularity among early adopters. Several users have described Comet as “the new Internet browser”, with many stating they don’t miss Chrome after switching.

In another post, Srinivas wrote, “The percentage of users who switch to Comet as their default browser has been steadily increasing since launch day. And there’s still so much more to do to keep increasing this number. Really promising future for Comet.”

He further emphasized Comet’s strategic advantage, pointing out that its default search engine is Perplexity. “If Comet can convert this many Chrome users instantly with just an initial version, the potential for a future version that’s a lot more stable is immense,” he said. “Every omnibox query of every such new user will go to Perplexity.”

Srinivas also highlighted the browser’s growing popularity in India, stating, “Perplexity usage in India growing like fire. Keep it coming! Excited to keep improving the product and serve more people’s daily questions. The adoption is clear proof that search has changed forever.”

While it remains to be seen how Google responds to this evolving competition, Comet’s initial reception suggests a shift in how users interact with the web. With AI at its core and a growing user base, Comet is positioning itself as a potential alternative to Chrome in the coming years.
