(WJAR) — As artificial intelligence continues to grow, it’s putting careers in jeopardy.
Jasmine Escalera, a career expert for LiveCareer, says some of the most at-risk jobs involve data entry, telemarketing and customer service.
“So when’s the last time you talked to an actual human when you tried to call Verizon?” asked Escalera. “You’re often going to be chatting with chatbots, and many of the companies now have these chatbots embedded into their website.”
She continued, “But also when you go to the grocery store, instead of working with a cashier at a cash register, a lot of it is automated and self-checkout.”
Bottom line: if automation is a big component of your work, then your job could be at risk for an AI takeover.
Escalera said other at-risk jobs include copy editors, paralegals, fast food workers and warehouse workers.
How can you pivot to something less vulnerable to an AI takeover?
“What you want to think about is upskilling and changing up your skills, and you want to be focused on skills where you’re interacting and engaging with people,” said Escalera.
She continued, “Leadership would be a great skill to really jump into, as well.”
Escalera said it’s also really important to start networking.
Reach out to industry leaders and ask questions like, “How could AI change my role? What kind of skills should I be building?”
She said if a new position does open up, they know you’re ready to take on the challenge.
