Jus Mundi 1st Legal Tech To Gain ISO AI Cert – Artificial Lawyer

Jus Mundi, the AI-driven arbitration data platform, has announced that it has become the first legal tech business to obtain the ISO 42001 certification, an international standard for AI Management Systems (AIMS). (By chance AL wrote about this same standard earlier this morning, see here.)

So, what is it? And is it worth having?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which creates and regulates many key standards around the world, stated that: ‘ISO 42001 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and continually improving an AIMS within organizations. It is designed for entities providing or utilizing AI-based products or services, ensuring responsible development and use of AI systems.

‘It is the world’s first AI management system standard, providing valuable guidance for this rapidly changing field of technology. It addresses the unique challenges AI poses, such as ethical considerations, transparency, and continuous learning. For organizations, it sets out a structured way to manage risks and opportunities associated with AI, balancing innovation with governance.’

All well and good. But, will that make a difference to potential customers of legal tech tools?

Jus Mundi said that it believed so. ‘As AI compliance becomes a global priority, legal professionals – who operate in one of the most high-risk and sensitive sectors – face increasing pressure to adopt systems that are both high-performing and fully compliant,’ they said.

They added that: ‘The certification, audited by Prescient Security, demonstrates that Jus Mundi’s AI systems – particularly its Jus AI generative legal assistant – are not only powerful and accurate, but also meet the highest standards for responsibility, transparency and trustworthiness. This achievement reinforces Jus Mundi’s position as a trusted technology partner for legal professionals navigating cross-border arbitration, legal research and document analysis.’

In short, it’s all about trust. And one could argue that every little step helps. That said, many lawyers – according to market feedback and many, many surveys – are already very happy to use AI tools, in fact sometimes so happy they’re almost reckless. But, for those who are still a bit nervous, then clearly an ISO cert will help.

Jus Mundi Chief Information Security Officer, Matthieu Guilpin, added: ‘This certification proves that we’ve done the work. We have structured AI governance, risk management, data safeguards, transparency, and ethical oversight, all verified by a third party. And because we are certified, our clients are better positioned to meet their own compliance obligations. We’re not just protecting our systems – we’re helping protect theirs too.’

Will every other legal tech company now rush out to get their ISO cert as well? Possibly. It depends if founders start to see this as a differential benefit, rather in the same way SOC compliance certs are seen as a valuable stamp of approval.
