OpenAI testing Study Together feature in ChatGPT: Here’s how it works

Some ChatGPT users have spotted a new feature called ‘Study Together’ showing up in their list of available tools. While OpenAI hasn’t officially announced anything yet, this new tool seems to focus on helping people learn in a more interactive and engaging way. Instead of simply giving users the answers, the Study Together feature appears to flip the script as it asks you the questions. This approach feels similar to Google’s LearnLM.

Some users are also curious if it will include a mode that allows multiple people to join the chat, like a study group feature, reports TechCrunch. This would turn ChatGPT into a shared learning space- great for classmates or friends preparing for exams together.

If launched widely, this feature could help guide ChatGPT’s role in education toward more ethical and productive use. While many teachers have embraced ChatGPT for tasks like making lesson plans, others worry that students may rely too heavily on it to do their assignments for them.

Study Together seems like an attempt to encourage the good side of AI in learning, promoting thinking and discussion rather than just giving away answers. It could make studying more engaging, especially for students who need a little extra motivation.

By transforming the chatbot into a kind of learning companion or study buddy, OpenAI might be trying to reshape how young users interact with AI. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if OpenAI officially rolls out the feature or chooses to drop it after the testing phase.
